Traveling Solo this Saturday

I am traveling for the first time by myself to Peurto Rico. I have traveled in the states (although Puerto Rico is the US....it definitely has a different flavor to it). I am nervous about traveling alone. I am simply tired of being afraid to step out and try new things. Do you guys have any tips for me?....Sight seeing.....etc. I've read a lot of posting and I am gathering excellent tips. I know I am not traveling to exotic locations as many of you have or will be traveling but this is my first baby step. I leave Saturday and now I am actually getting excited about the trip. Thanks everyone!

Puerto Rico is a plenty exotic vacation destination. Don't sell it (or yourself!) short. Depends what you want to do regarding siteseeing, etc. I'm a big beach person, so that's what I'd be seeking out. Plus restaurants, bars, and local shopping.

But you might enjoy signing up for an organized day tour of the island or something like that for an overview, and with a group so you wouldn't be intimidated or have to figure out transportation yourself at the beginning.

My best overall advice is stay calm, keep your wits about you if you find yourself in unfamiliar situations, smile, laugh, and enjoy yourself! Once the plane takes off... is one of my favorite moments in any trip. The excitement and anticipation.

Hi Chelle,
I gave a long post on the "very best tips" thread. So go there to see what I say.
Have fun. By soloing to another culture you are way ahead of most travelers!!

Hi Chelle,
I've been to one of several fluorescent bays in the area. The one I went to is off the island of Vieques, a short hop by plane from the main island of Puerto Rico. I know that there are night tours there, which you can book through Puerto Rico hotels and tourist offices. The water is magical, expecially in moonlight. Go to one of the bays, if you can, and when you dip your fingers in the water it seems you are holding moonlight itself.
Enjoy!

Lea,

How beautifully written. I will definitely make the attempt to go to Fluorescent Bay.
