1st time in New Orleans -- anyone heard of the Royal Street Courtyard

I am going to NO in November for a conference and have had difficulty finding accomodations.

I have stumbled upon the Royal Street Courtyard in the FQ area I believe. Has anyone heard of it. I also have found another stop in the Garden District. How safe are the area that I have mentioned. Any help would be great.

This hotel is not in the French Quarter. Royal Street in the Quarter runs from 100 to 1300 blocks. The hotel is in the 2400 block. Definitely somewhere where you will have to take a cab.

If you are referring to "The Courtyards" at 1428 Royal, we stayed there 2 years ago, for a week, on a timeshare exchange. We were a half a block from Esplande (?) and walked every day into the French Quarter, and we are in our mid-60's. These are condos, with full kitchens, and LR & bathrooms. Not fancy, but very well equipped. Some units are larger than others, and some are 2 bedrooms. George was the manager and was the most helpful man with pointing out great places to eat, and things to see and excellent directions. There was also a washer/dryer available (free) for people staying there. We just parked our car where it was free and walked everywhere without any problems. I would stay there again, if we ever wanted to go back to NO. Please email me if you would like more information.

Different hotel, JoAnn. The Royal Street Courtyards is several blocks past the Courtyard timeshare.

VERY MUCH SO! I've noticed this on other travel boards as well.

I've seen the Royal St Courtyards from the street but haven't seen a room. The neighborhood is not bad but not particularly interesting to tourists. And a cab is probably a good idea at night or during warm days, since the Quarter is several blocks away.

Or the St. Vincent Guest House on Magazine St.

How safe are these areas (at night) and does anyone know if they are "legal" establishments?

Any help would be appreciated.

I really hate to sound negative, but I've never heard a single good word about the St Vincent Guest House or Prytania Inns. The reason those places still have availability during a citywide convention is because they aren't nice places...both have reputations for being dirty! Try calling B&B Inc., a local reservations service, at 800-729-4640. Maybe they can help? (I'm not associated with them in any way, shape, or form!)
