$200 hotel around Radio City/Theater areas?

My husband and myself and a friend are going to new york june 7 for 3 nights. We would like a cool, unique to new york- hotel (not a big chain), but can't pay more than $220 a night and also don't want a real tiny room b/c we're all staying together. We are going to see the Oasis/Black Crowes show at Radio City and also will be going to the theatre. Any suggestions? (And by the way, any cool bar suggestions around the hotel you recommend or in those areas?)

Most of the "cool" hotels(ie Hudson, Mansfield, Time, Iroquois) tend to have very small rooms. Someone may have a better suggestion, but the Doubletree Suites may fit your bill in the size category. If they have any special rates available at the time it may be in your price range. The Roosevelt near Grand Central is huge, but may have some larger rooms in your price range and it's a pretty good location. Also check with Manhatten East Suites--they have several properties with reasonably priced suites.

Thank you so much for your posting. Truly appreciated! Have you heard anything about the J.W. Marriott? It's not exactly what we're looking for (not a "cool" Ny hotel), but we found a good rate. It's not the Marriott Marquis, it's the new Marriott...

Well, it's not cool but it seemed very New York-y to this midwesterner, and the rooms are huge: the Wyndham(not part of the chain), a converted apartment hotel just off 6th on I think 57th (behind the Plaza). Small lobby with two elevators (run by elevator operators!) and huge rooms with faded decorating where space is the only amenity. Our room ($175) had two walk-in closets, desk, lounge chairs, etc. Sort of cozy faded charm. On the whole we like it, and very well-located for Radio City, etc.

The Wyndham is on W. 58th, just off 5th Avenue. Marilyn's description of the hotel is right on the money.. My daughter spent a weekend there a few years ago. I recall her saying the rooms were quite large. The hotel does have a history. It was, in years gone by, quite popular with people in show business.

Thank you very much for the info. Much appreciated. It's hard because my husband said that the hotel he thought used to be the Regal Royal, but sounds like you guys described it very well. I will go to the Marriott page to see if I can't find out. Thanks so much again!!
