All I want for Christmas is......?

Still got my 'two front teeth' so don't actually want anything, but the 'obviously impossible', like world peace, a little more understanding of each other, my youth back (with all the smarts I have now), my list dreams, a fragment of my childhood, to see my father laugh again, etc., etc.. But, of course, can't have. So I will settle for a smile on Xmas morning, a picture of your children and how they look now, a really good piece of fruitcake, a soft night on my pillow, continued good health, safety of my children and theirs, etc.....etc....forget the gismos that take batteries, the things that go 'thump', games with tiny pieces, perfume, dresses, diamonds, new furniture, a face lift, ...don't want any of it any more.

Reminds me of a Christmas Eve radio broadcast by a talk show in the Washington DC area. They taped clips from many ambassadors living here, each responding to this same question. Every single one of them (except one) wished for things like world peace and good health. Boy, did that single hold-out sound stupid when he said he just wanted a box of chocolate covered cherries!

I am going to visit my daughter who is studying abroad this year and truly will be blissful just having my whole nuclear family together for a too-short time. When I was younger, I really hungered for things. No More!
Happy Holidays, Fodorites!

Given the headlines from yesterday I'm getting doubtful about world peace and anyone's ability in the US to stand up, be counted, and demand that the first actions to help ensure it take place.

So, at least some prayers for it might help and including a few other prayers for those who think that everything is solved by wars.

Lots of times in my life, I absolutely knew that I just didn't "fit" where I've been. Christmas was prime. I've never wanted things, except maybe the possible exception of a "better" house.

So now that I'm older, I see more and more people like samting, that are coming around closer to where I've been, so I can enjoy Christmas more easily now.

Merry Christmas and some good memory times for all!
