Any info on Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel or the Aston Keauhou Beach Resort?

We will be traveling to the Big Island for 10 days in March. Does anyone have any info/experiences at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel or the Aston Keauhou Beach Resort?

Hapuna Beach is beautiful. I loved swimming there. I wish the beach had more shade, though. There is shade in the grassy picnic area.

I have never stayed at the hotel. However, the lobby and grounds are gorgeous as is the pool . I am sure you'll love it.

Diane,
We've stayed at the Keauhou twice and it was very nice - there is no "beach" there however, if that is a priority, but a lovely lagoon with lots of black lava rock is adjacent to the hotel. The pool area is small but we didn't use it much anyway. The grounds were quite nice and the rooms were nicely furnished. I believe it has recently been remodeled too, so it might look even better. We had a ocean/lagoon view, they upgraded us at no extra cost when I told them it was our second visit. The first time we had a lagoon view also, but not as much "full ocean" as last time. It's a handy for shopping, etc. in Kona too we found. I hope you enjoy the Big Island, it's a very beautiful place.

Diane,

Kahaluu Beach Park is adjacent to the grounds of Aston Keauhou Beach Resort, and it is the best swimming & snorkeling beach in that part of the island. You could walk right over. The entire hotel has been under renovation this past year, I hear, so if you stay here, be sure to ask for a renovated room.

The Hapuna Prince is in a whole different class, about three times as expensive. Haven't stayed there but know the beach there is wonderful. Can't imagine the hotel is anything but terrific, though some travel writers complain that the Princes are a bit stark and not tropical enough.

You might also consider the Outrigger Waikoloa, which is being renovated, as we speak, due to re-open October 1, and situated on wonderful Anaehoomalu Bay, and I think, a great deal for the money. We've stayed there twice, and it's a very Hawaiian resort.

Good luck - have a great trip!

I stayed at the Hapuna and thought it wonderful. I didn't find it stark; I thought it have an oriental elegance.

Stayed at the Hapuna Beach Prince in early December 1997. The hotel and its setting are beautiful but too cold in atmosphere and totally lacking in the "aloha spirit". Although the beach is renowned, it becomes dangerously rough in the winter!
