I'm a native SD and we go to the Del quite a bit and have had friends stay in the older section it's different and you won't have the amenities like you would in the newer building..which is next door..see if you can get upgraded to the building next door and ask for an ocean view.
$195 a night for November with parking is decent but not incredible..the Del is a grand dame of a hotel and the quaint town of Coronado is so wonderful..Marriott Coronado is on the SD Bay and a lovely property.
Alternative hotels..The Grande Colonial hotel in La Jolla, Estancia hotel and spa in LJ, L'Auberge Del Mar, Grand Del Mar resort, US Grant hotel downtown SD.
Happy to answer any questions you might have clay.

thanks so much for your reply Im going to try to call back Del and ask about the upgrade. It just seems like a great location and the beach sounds good. How far is the Marriot from the actual beach?

November in San Diego is not usually beach weather. The ocean water will be very cold.

That sounds like a good rate for the Del for what their advertised rates are.

The Marriott is not on the beach at all - it is on the bay. It was purchased by the Marriott..for the life of me I cannot remember what it was before ... it was a higher end than marriott though - I have stayed there several times and it is a nice property. The rooms are a bit larger than the average Marriott room.

November can be cold in Southern California - esp. by the beach unless we get a Santa Ana... just sayin'. I am not sure where you are traveling from but it is not Hawaii or the Island weather...

I recently stayed at the Del - while the overall setting is beautiful, I was not impressed with the accommodations. Not bad, but not "special" considering all the hype. I also thought the maintenance of public restrooms was poor, especially considering the amount of visitors they get each day.

Also, I found the food options at the Del quite limited and just average in terms of selection/taste. 1500 Ocean was tastier, but not worth the added expense. I thought there were better eating options elsewhere on Coronado.

Personally, the Del is a lovely place to hang and have drinks and eat at 1500 BUT I would go elsewhere to stay..just my 2 cents but knowing the rooms and the older part can be a really old and not in the good way..unless you can be guaranteed a room in the newer section with an oceanfront view..I would pass.
Check out my other hotel options in my first post..the Loew's resort down the street is really nice on the SD Bay.
November is usually really nice but can turn cold quickly or hot if there is a Santa Ana.

MomDD..it used to be called Le Meridan Coronado..

we just spent 5 days at the Del and we were disappointed. the 1st room we had looked at an adjoining roof when my husband asked to be moved they did not have anything available until he offered to pay more. of course then we got moved the new room was better. But the hairdryer was awful and to use my hair dryer or straightener the only plug that would take them was the bathroom, very inconvenient. No makeup mirror. Bed was very comfortable and pleanty of towels. Going to the beach you had to sign for towels and chairs and pay for an umbrella. It used to be a "Grande" hotel but now it is just a hotel. Sorry to say.The walls were paper thin. When the adjoining room came in at 1 in the morning they sounded like they were in our room. As I said in the beginning very disappointing.

Wonder if claytoj1 will listen to us?
The newer townhomes at the Del are really nice but they want a small fortune to stay the night.
For $1700 for the week, you can do a lot better.

If it's a choice between the Del and L'Auberge, take L'Auberge. The Del of course is beautiful and scenic and nostalgic, but it's also a bit pricey and touristy. At L'Auberge, you feel pampered like royalty - yet are close enough to all the activities in San Diego that you want to be. Both hotels are within walking distance of their respective towns. We did the best of both world's and stayed at Loew's Coronada Resort which is just a mile or two from the Del for a few days and then went to L'Auberge for the next few days...just a thought.
