I was hooked on this board about three years ago. I was on it a lot! After a while, I started to feel a bit like the same questions were being asked over and over.

I think what finally tipped me over the edge, after a time, was the number of times I saw a question about the Road to Hanna. I began to wonder if everybody on the planet was planning a trip there! I went on a Fodor's hiatus while I was planning my 2003 wedding.

Now I'm back and I'm happy to report that I haven't seen nearly so many RTH posts as I used to. I'm enjoying my re-entry for the time being.

atlswan, if you're seeing fewer RTH posts now, it must have REALLY been bad then!

Oh yeah - I almost forgot... We'll be in Maui Sept 9-16th 2005. Staying at the FS. Should we, like, take that Road to ... uh...HANA? If we already did it in 1989, is it worth taking it again? Should me maybe do 1/2 of it and then turn around as doing the whole thing is really hard and stuff? Should we, like, go the whole way through to Hana and around the other side? Wouldn't that, like, void our rental car insurance thingie? Should we go in the sacred pools? What if we got a disease in those pools - do they have doctors there? Do little kids p** in the pools? Would YOU go in those pools? What makes them so sacred?

What if we broke down? How big are those rutted potholes on the other side of Hana? What if we get stuck in one and start sinking, like a sink hole, and our car, like, gets swallowed up and we end up in China? Will the rental car place pick us up there and fly us back to like, Hawaii and stuff? Would they then make sure we could get a lift back to the FS?

Thanks in advance. And should we go to Mama's Fish House, like, before or after Hana? Is it worth the price? Should we order, like, fish and stuff? Anyone have the menu? What's good for dessert? How bout drinksn - why are they so expensive? Why is everything so expensive on this island? What about a sunset view at Mama's? What's the perfect time to go and have the sunset shine right on our food so we can see better? Would we be blinded by the sun? What if we looked into the sun - would it like, hurt and stuff? How are the hospitals there - could they like, give us an eye transplant from the blinding?

Thanks in advance. OR, should we like, go on one of those car trips in a van to Hana? Would that be better because we wouldn't have to drive, end up in that sinkhole, and have to worry about getting back from China and stuff?

Lastly, should we take the boat trip to Molokai or the day trip to Lanai? Are the seas rough - will we get seasick? Is it guaranteed we'll see actual fish if we snorkel? What about whales? Could we ride one of those instead of the dolphin? Do they have nice Lanai's in Lanai? Why is it called Lanai anyway? Is Molokai where Molotav cocktails came from? Are they dangerous?

You guys are very helpful. I'm sure you've all had this same experience at some time in your travelled lives.

Being silly today - finally had a great night's sleep!

I think there are just about as many Hawaii posts as there were a few years ago but not as many of them are specific to RTH. Or at least it seems that way to me.

Stop it, Steve, I'm here in the cubicle farm snorting into my sleeve. Stop it!

Steve R... you're killing me here! What a hoot, and right on the money!

(Actually, the sheer number of Road to Hana posts is more dizzying than our actual drive there and back. Thank God, we did not end up in China, Steve! )

Placeu2,

As a matter of fact, I had not heard of Seka, (I have obviously led a very sheltered life!) but I have now been enlightened by Jeeves. quot;>

I bet you were disappointed when you opened my link!

I will try to do better next time. Now behave yourself!!!

Especially the posts on Hawaii...that #ell hole of an island, Kauai in particular.

> Hawaii should have it's own forum.

I know this isn't an ideal place to do this, but I am planning a trip. I want to go somewhere away from home for some period of time, and I want to see some sights and do some things. Can anyone help me?

I am going on a trip. Everything is planned. I don't have any questions.

JUST DON'T POST ANYTHING INTERESTING TILL I COME BACK!

I think a shower of Hawaii posts just set in. Felt a few drops. Looks like we're in for a downpour.

Wayne, my advice is to put some stuff in a suitcase, drive to an airport, buy a ticket to somewhere and go. When you come back, tell us how it went. ;-)

I love sharing travel information but I get tired of answering the same questions, over and over. I've quit answering the ones that require long answers like "How should we spend our time in Yellowstone?"

If people would do a search first they would find TONS of great advice. Then if they have specific questions, ask them.

I have to agree with steve. When I first started coming here in 2000 or early 2001 I was planning a trip and I got so much great advice here. I have loved participating over the years but I do admit that I have slacked off responding because I open the post and the questions are so broad that it seems tiring and tedious to respond when you don't really know the person and they haven't provided adequate info to determine what they really would like to do/see/eat/stay. Since I've been to Maui 5 times and have managed to avoid the RTH so far I find the search for every morsel of info about that to be exceptionally boring.

Having said that I still love reading the trip reports and responding to postings that are clear and concise. I don't know if I can ever leave this place - except to actually go somewhere!

The "Maui or Kauai" and "Road to Hana" questions are the worst repeat offenders of all. Hawaii needs its own forum category.

I used to be very active here, about a year or 2 ago. I still check in when I can but I've enjoyed the long break.

It hasn't helped that I've not traveled much in the past year. Hopefully that will change soon though.

Log off for awhile and see if you don't feel better when you next visit.

Perhaps I'm not the only one who feels this way, but IMO, this site was far funnier and more interesting in the pre-registration days. The protection of anonymity obviously brought out some real comic talent in some of the posters here.

I suspected that Fodor's would turn into "which hotel," "where in Hawaii," and "I'm leaving in three days, what is there to see and do?" after registration was implemented, and it apparently has.

I don't frequent this site like I used to either. In the past, I came here never knowing what would be happening and what the topics of the day would be. Now I know exactly what they will be, lol, thus the reason for my increasingly extended absences and fewer postings.

Still love to travel and talk about travel, but I also feel that it is just SOS here most of the time now, and the same questions have been answered over and over again. It's all available with a simple search.

Yes, it's true that we see many of the same questions over and over, but the information provided changes over time. Restaurants and hotels change ownership, go out of business, go downhill or get remodeled, and there are always new places to eat or stay (what, no one wants to hear a first-hand account of the new Wynn hotel in Las Vegas?). This site is continuously updating with these (to some) repetitive, boring questions. When you spend your hard-earned money on a vacation, do you go out and buy a 5 year old guidebook? I don't know about the rest of you, but I want the most up-to-date information for my trips.

I don't mind the same questions over and over. After all that just means there are new posters or newbie travelers on-board.

But I do notice this BB goes in waves, as someone else mentioned. It's fast-paced and hysterically funny sometimes or a bit slow and sleepy (like it is right now).
