Avoiding the #!**# Dadblamed Illinois Tollway
OK, that's it! I'm not spending another two hours in the car, at the end of a 5 hour trip, messing around with the congestion/construction on the blasted IL tollway, as I head from Wisconsin to the northwest side of Chicago. Does anyone have a tried and tested alternative?
If I'm going to have to spend 7 hours in a car, I want said car to be moving, even if it means taking a long way 'round. Ideas?

I am a Chicago drive who is willing to help you but I am not sure of your question...
Are you coming from Milwaukee area or Beloit or elsewhere?
When you say Northwest...do you mean city or suburbs?
Right now some things are impossible..I-94 (edens) for example. You must not mean this route since you talk about tolls.
41 is an alternative in that neighborhood and 14 or 20 are good if coming from Janesville/Beloit.
7 hours is a good hike...give me some more detail and I believe I can be helpful.

placeu2: coming from milwaukee, I-94 to 294. Headed for northwest side Chicago (Cumberland/Belmont). We make this trip frequently for grandkid visits; the last few have been total nightmares, between construction and congestion. The other grandkids are in South HOlland, which is realllly fun, given the extent of the tollway work going on. Suggestions welcome!
And thanks Joethekay for your idea - will look at the map and check it out.
