beach chair and umbrella rentals in carmel?
We are traveling to carmel from the east coast for a wedding. Would love to spend part of one of the off days at the beach. Wondering if any of the beaches in carmel have beach chair and umbrella rentals for the day? TIA

The vast majority of Carmel Beach beach goers are walking their dogs or walking along the shoreline. It has to be an exceptionally sunny and clear day i.e. hot and no fog for people to be sitting out on a blanket on the beach for any length of time. These kind of days do happen occasionally, but they are not predictable so they can't be planned on. You might luck out.

Wow- no idea the beaches were like this. I definitely was thinking similar to East coast experience. The wedding is next week- early October. Maybe we will just plan to go for a walk on the beach and lunch with a view. Thanks so much

October is one of the best months for beaches in CA. Next week you should have gorgeous weather - highs in the mid-60s, plenty of sunshine, a few clouds, but not many. There shouldn't be much, if any, fog.

emcash, sorry there are no restaurants with a view of the Pacific in Carmel proper. There are lots of lovely places, but none on the ocean. There are a couple in Pebble Beach, Stillwaters and the Bench with views, some in Monterey itself, and one in the Carmel Highlands at the Hyatt Highland Inn. Oh, and the Mission Ranch restaurant does have a view of Point Lobos.
As you will see, the central coast of California is nothing like an East Coast shore experience.

I was in Carmel recently and had a lovely dinner the Bench, at Pebble Beach. Good food, lovely view of the 18th hole & ocean. Highly recommended by local friends of ours.
There's about a 1mi stretch of beach that you can walk in Carmel proper, either along the water line or up on the cliff along a walking trail.
Just south of town is another beach (Carmel River area) - you can walk there from town as well, or drive.

The Inn at Spanish Bay has a casua restaurant
Called Stox with salads, burgers, bar fare that had a lovely view of the gold course and ocean. If you go early
You can get a seat by the fire pits and listen/watch the bagpiper that plays at sunset. It's a wonderful experience and this is a wonderful time of the year for it!

The Bench at the Lodge at Pebble Beach is our favorite view restaurant on the Monterey Peninsula.
There's no commercial development allowed on the Carmel coast line so you won't find view restaurants right in Carmel.
Mission Ranch about a mile south of downtown Carmel has a nice view overlooking sheep pastures, river beach and Point Lobos in the distance. We like to go for drinks on the patio which opens at 4pm. Dinner starts at 5pm and no reservations are taken. They can get pretty busy when the weather is nice which it usually is in early October.

>>The rugged coastline off Ocean View Boulevard in Pacific Grove
Pacific Grove contains several habitat types including marine, littoral, pine forest and mixed oak woodland. The famed breeding habitat for the monarch butterfly is situated in the northwest part of town imbedded in residential neighborhoods in mixed oak forests.

The majority of butterflies are protected in the city's Butterfly Sanctuary. City Ordinance No. 352 makes it a misdemeanor to kill or threaten a butterfly, punishable by a $1000 fine.

Pacific Grove Marine Gardens State Marine Conservation Area, Lovers Point State Marine Reserve, Edward F. Ricketts State Marine Conservation Area and Asilomar State Marine Reserve are marine protected areas in the waters around Pacific Grove. Like underwater parks, these marine protected areas help conserve ocean wildlife and marine ecosystems. Monterey Bay is a marine protected sanctuary.
The principal noise source in Pacific Grove is State Route 68. There are approximately 800 residents exposed to sound levels of 60 CNEL or above, making Pacific Grove noticeably quieter than its neighbor Monterey, which has more tourist traffic and more through traffic.
The town sits between its two well known neighbors, Pebble Beach and Monterey. Carmel-by-the-Sea is the next city, five miles to the south, and the community of Big Sur is 30 miles south. Pacific Grove is a favorite vacation getaway for San Francisco Bay Area residents, located one and a half hours south of San Francisco.
The town does not allow development on the waterside of the ocean-front street, so that the beaches and scenic points are unobstructed.>>

Monarch Sanctuary in Pacific Grove
Pacific Grove is located at
36°37′9″N 121°55′16″W (36.619065, -121.921025).[14] That places it on the Pacific Ocean between Monterey and Pebble Beach, about 40 miles south of Santa Cruz and about 100 miles south of San Francisco. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.0 square miles (10 km2). 2.9 square miles (7.5 km2) of it is land and 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2) of it (28.42%) is water. Asilomar, Lovers Point and the intervening coastline afford surfing, which is challenging due to near shore rocks, albeit waves are typically moderate in height.
Pacific Grove's climate is mild throughout the year, essentially the same as in neighboring Monterey, with most of the rain falling from November through April. Extreme temperatures are rare and fog is common, especially in the late night and early morning, all year. (See Monterey for more details.)
