For interior touring THE MILEPOST is a necessary reference. I think Fodor's and Frommer's Alaska guides are excellent, good information and concise. Try your library- no need to purchase a bunch of one time use costly books.

The Fodor and Frommer Alaska travel guides aren't a waste of money, more of an investment if you want to do your research right so you have a great experence in a vast land. I perferred the Frommer's guide over the Fodor's (sorry everyone, you have to look down all avenues when traveling). It seemed to give more detailed information.
I also contacted the visitor centers of the cities and towns we wanted to visit and requested they send us their visitor guide. This way you can flip through them when and wherever you want, go to the web sites of places that intrest you and request brochures for the individual accommodiations, activities, attractions and entertainment.
Here are some web sites and phone numbers that might be some help.

1.Anchorage Log Cabin Visitor Infor.

4.Seward Visitor Center

5.Kodiak Island Visitor Center

Good luck in your planning and don't wait too long to make your reservations.

My preference is for Frommer and AAA Guidebooks where there are available, and Lonely Planet where they are not. I especially like Frommer's "The Best of" section at the beginning of each book and his find his *** system to be a reliable guide to sites of interest.
