Taxi or car service -- price is about the same (if you reserve the car in advance and call when you arrive).

Airport bus service will take you from the airport to Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station, and some major midtown hotels.

The bus is certainly not the "best way." It's probably the worst.

And it's not even the least expensive.

Taxi or car service. I've done shuttle, I've done subway-- and believe me, the cab's the easiest way to both get into Manhattan and to get into the New York mindset. Just watching the wheels in the driver's mind spin trying to picture the fast way around traffic on the L.I.E. will get you in the NYC mood...!

By "best" do you mean cheapest? Fastest? Most convenient? Let us know what is important to you.

When there are 4 of us coming in together we take at cab $45 one-way + toll and tip. It is usually $60 (one way) when all is said and done

I have come in alone and have taken the New York Airport Service shuttle to Grand Central (I was staying in the area so didn't have to transfer to the hotel bus) it was only $27 ROUND TRIP. http://www.nyairportservice.com/ nice option if you don’t have someone to share the cab with and you want to save some $. The trip from JFKtook GCT took about an hour and 10 or 15 minutes.

I went the car service route once and didn't think it was amazing. I called when I landed and although I didn't have to wait too long for them to show up, I think in less amount of time I would have been in a cab & on my way. Both drop you at the door, so I really didn't see an advantage. Note: It was not rush hour so I would not have had a long queue for the cab.

Think about what is important to you (time, cost, convenience) and decide what is best for you.

Taxi is the best/easiest. The fare is a flat fee of $45 - plus tip and toll is about $60 - they all have AC and will take you directly to your hotel. Also - although there may be people waiting on the cab line there is a huge field of cabs waiting to be called to the terminals and the line will move as fast as people can get into the cabs.

I prefer cab to car service - which requires you have to
1) arrange in advance
2) call when you land to get a car
3) find the driver once you have your luggage

And most of the basic (non-limo) car service sedans are little nicer than a cab.

Limos are much nicer - but a LOT more money.

We just returned and we used the taxi service. There was no wait when we got there, and it was easy to use.

Thanks to all of you who took time to help me. I quess I'll spend the extra money to take a cab to get there sooner and be dropped off at the hotel. I appreciate your help.
