BOSTON- Park Plaza Hotel & surroundings

We are staying 2 days in June at the Park Plaza in Boston and have heard bad reports on the hotel. We got what we got!! (Priceline bid for 60 a night.) We are close to everything but want to hear more reports about the hotel and things to do close by............Any suggestions

$60 is a bargain. Be thankful.

The location is perfect, and while the hotel is being renovated, some rooms are sparkling new, some haven't been done yet. I think you'll be fine.

For $60/night in Boston, it's a deal. I live outside of Boston but recently stayed at the Park Plaza, through Priceline for $50/night. The staff is very nice, and helpful. The room was fine - you can tell it's old (especially the bathroom), but everything worked and was clean, so no complaints out of me! The location is great for tourists. You're very close to the Public Gardens and Boston Commmon. You should walk through both and take a ride on the Swan Boats. The hotel is also very close to the T, which will take you all over Boston - to the waterfront for the Aquarium, to Fanueil Hall, out to Kenmore Square to see the Red Sox, etc. You can also walk from the Park Plaza to the Back Bay area. Take a walk down Newbury Street and watch all the beautiful people shop! June is a nice time in Boston, not too hot (usually). Some restaurant suggestions near the hotel - Jae's, if you like Thai food, Maggiano's for italian (however, for real Italian, make a trip to Hanover Street in the North End), Ciao Bella on Newbury Street, Tim's Tavern on Columbus (warning - it's a dive, but a local favorite for great burgers!!!)

That is a steal of a deal!
The location is excellent- the hotel is older but should be just fine, especially if you are only going to be there for 2 days.

Plenty to do near by. The theatre district is very close by as is the transporattion building , which is an office building but houses some good reatuarants- PF Chang's (really good Chinese) Brew Moon (burgers, beers etc) and Pho Pasteur (excellent Vietnamese)

There is a "Boston Trolley" store there which is convenient for the tour (this is different than the "T" subway..)

Public Garden close by. Swan Boats will be operating then and it is a short walk to Newbury Street and Copley Square. Enjoy!

Thanks to everyone who posted. Doesnt sound real bad and close proximity will make the stay much better. We wont be in the room much for the two day stay then were off to Newport and on to New York. Any other ideas?????????????
Thanks
Ron

Just glad to see people looking at VALUE once again.

I've seen lots of Priceline bidding lately and people are "upset" with their $85/nite NYC hotels or $70 Chicago hotels.... so what if the carpet is a little worn or has a stain in the corner?

I'd rather pay $100 with a stained carpet than $200 and have it be immaculate (and i've paid $200/nite and had stained carpets too!)

KCD has some good suggestions, and I don't want to nit-pick, but Jae's is Korean, not Thai.

In any event, the location is great. Have a great trip!!
