California trip in July
My family, me, my husband, and two daughters 14 and 10 are going to San Jose for Fencing Nationals Tournament. We would like to spend at least some time siteseing. We have July 3 and 4 free from fencing, and then July 9-12 for the rest of siteseing. We are staying in San Jose and flying home from Los Angelos. Any sudgestions are welcome. We especially need to find out what is the best thing to do on July 4. We never been to Northen California. Thanks!

Spend July 4 in San Francisco.
July 4 isn't really different than any other day in The City, except there will be fireworks that you won't be able to see because of the fog.
Spend the evening in North Beach.

After you finish in San Jose (I'm assuming the morning of the 9th), I would suggest driving down the coast, starting in Santa Cruz and ending in Los Angeles. You could stay the 1st night near Hearst Castle in San Simeon or in Santa Barbara, then continue on to L.A. early on the 10th, which would give you the rest of the 10th through the 12th touring around there.
