Chapel Hill area - What is there to do?

Could anyone else please tell me what there is to do in the Chapel Hill area? Attractions or interesting things to do and see?

Welcome to my hometown.

You must visit the university. See the bell tower, old well, and take in a show at the Morehead Planetarium. Stroll down Franklin Street, visit the Coker arboretum. Try www.unc.edu for information.

Next door to Chapel Hill is Carrboro. Very arty "Paris of the Piedmont." It has an arts center and a good bit of public art.

Closest hotel to the campus is the Carolina Inn. Others in town include The Sienna (very fancy), Sheraton, Hampton Inn, and a Best Western. No B&B's in town.

Depending on when your visiting, there could be a football game ($26 for all seats, so far the team is 1-0), or basketball (scalpers only).

If you have a car, head over to Durham and tour Duke university, Duke Gardens, West Point on the Eno park, the Museum of Life and Science.

There are also some great restaurants in the Chapel Hill area. One of my favorites is Aurora, which specializes in northern Italian cuisine. It's on the 54 bypass, just a couple of miles from the university.
Chapel Hill is a great little town, and I really miss living there (I, like a lot of people, went there as an undergrad and ended up staying -- I was there for eight years). I agree with everything Karen said in her post. Just walking around campus and the downtown area on a beautiful day (as one often has in Chapel Hill) is one of life's finest experiences... *sigh*

Don't forget that Chapel Hill is just one town over from Durham and there's much to see there, esp. Duke campus (sorry, Carolina fans) with glorious Duke Gardens. Just one town north is historic Hillsborough, which dates from the Revolution and has many buildings from that era, esp. the lovely church on the hill.

Let's on't forget Raleigh. There is the NC Museum of Art (just missed the Rodin exhibit), History Museum, Natural Science Museum, etc. Get one of the local free weeklys--The Indepent or The Spectator. You can find them eveywhere. There is a lot to do you just need to research. If you are looking for some extremely unique site, you will not find it in the Triangle. It is a great place to live that does offer things to see and do for its residents. Be sure to catch live music at nightclubs or bigger acts

Actually, compared to any major city, there actually isn't that much to do, to be frank. But in addition to what's already been mentioned and depending on your interests, there's decent local theater (Playmakers).

There are a handful of reasonable restaurants -- the only Piedmont 5-star, Fearrington Inn, 15 minutes outside Chapel Hill is best, followed by a cluster of 3.5 stars in C.H. and more in Durham (Nana's, Magnolia Grill, Four Sq.). Raleigh has some quite good restaurants but it's a 20-40 min. drive down congested I40.

This is the probelm with our city, you can make a good living and have your children to grow up successful, but for travelers, it is tough to guide people to see unique things. So, I am not sure if you are from the South, but if you are not maybe go to a southern Diner and eat grits, fresh vegtables, and lookout for the area mascot (not a UNC ram, NCSU Wolf, or a Duke Blue Devil----It is the orange road barrel which means that a new highway, new neighborhood or a new mall is going up. Again, get a Independent (weekly rag) and see what is happenng.
