Just looking at the photos above and realized you can't see the State House in the background of the Bicentennial Park shot--high-rise behind blends in. Also, the tree shot is on Commerce St. not Broadway.
The headboard is made of real cowhide so I can't write 'No animals were harmed...'
I put in a request for a ride to the airport yesterday. And another black taxi that looked like a limo was waiting.
Was eating breakfast at 8:18 at the airport Tootsie's. The original Tootsie's on Broadway is a pale magenta color by virtue of a painter's error that owner loved. Also at the original is a back door that opens to the back door at the Ryman next door. Performers apparently used those doors for easy escape from one, access to the other.

Final thoughts:
Nashville is vibrant and growing. According to tour guides, 80 to 100 people moving in daily. Buildings are springing up. Art and music abound.
It helps to like country but that isn't all I heard. As mentioned upthread, in addition to the country venues, Nashville has a symphony hall: https://www.nashvillesymphony.org/
and Nashville has an opera hall: http://www.nashvilleopera.org/ [Tosca is coming]
Even if you don't stay at Union Station, at least pop in to see the beautiful lobby.

So pleased you got to see our friend in common LOL TDudette . I saw the Singer exhibition the time before this trip in London . I remember hearing from annhigbabout it.
annhig- I went to the Imperial war museum 2 years ago to see the 100 year end of WW 1 - it was extremely well done . I wouldn't bother going to IWM unless there was a specific exhibition I wanted to see.

Thanks, northie. Sargent's works move me so much. Are you familiar with Sorolla? Both artists' lives have amazing parallels.
I have a call in to the Frist to see where the WWI exhibit will go next. WWI will be at Frist through January 21, 2018 and the Cave until June 24, 2018.

northie, when you get a chance, google 'mending the sail'--the Sorolla I first saw in Venice should pop up (maybe as 'sewing the sail'). He lived in Madrid. His wife donated their home/studio to the city.
I was thinking about the AT&T building in Nashville. Don't think I mentioned that the skyline was interesting. How would you compare Nashville's skyline to Chicago's????

I have enjoyed reading this report, TDudette. You are truly a dedicated Sargent fan. I have made special trips for Vermeer and Van Gogh exhibits in the past few years but nothing to compare to your chasing Sargent trips.
My husband's brother and his wife have recently moved to Chattanooga so we are thinking of a trip to see them and Nashville. Your info will be helpful.
I found this article about the US tour of Gassed with a picture of it being readied for shipment

Thanks, Vt. It was seeing Sargent's works at the National Gallery of Art in D.C. that started it. His portraits overshadowed his watercolors and he was able to make a living through portraiture.
Thank you for the link! The Frist folks haven't returned my call but here's what the link writes:
"“Gassed” will be touring at the following U.S. locations:
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts: November 4, 2016 – April 9, 2017
New York Historical Society: May 19, 2017 – September 3, 2017
Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville, TN: October 6, 2017 – January 28, 2018
Following these stops, the work will be on display at the National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, MO. “Gassed” has not been seen in the U.S. since 1999. It is currently in storage until it leaves for its stateside tour aboard a FedEx airplane specially designed to transport the large work of art."
Crating up "Gassed" had to have been a challenge.

TD - I should love to see it when I go to Venice in February, but I can't see where it is, apart from this link:

did you see it in Ca' Pesaro? I've never been there so it would make a good half day activity for me, especially as it's not that far away from where I'm staying [albeit it's on the other side of the Grand Canal!]
