Chicago Hotel (Hard Rock or House of Blues)

Hi,

I am taking my daughters to chicago for the weekend and am wondering what everyone thinks of these hotel choices. Are either one of these good or do you sugest something different? We are going to be there from Friday morning until Sunday night We will mostly be shopping, so want to be in the N Michigan Ave area.

They are both convenient to the Loop,(Hard Rock is close to the Art Institute, a don't-miss) and a fair amount of shopping, but other hotels are smack-dab in the middle of Michigan Avenue shopping district. You might look at the Fitzpatrick, Omni Suites, the Talbott, the Westin, the Drake or the Wyndham. If your teens prefer the ambience of HOB or the Hard Rock, they are perfectly good choices.

The hard rock is brand new( just opened like a month ago, it is in a old office bulding renovated into a hotel) - just openend. It is just south of the river.
I would pick hard rock just becase it it brand new and I have not been there. But house of blues is a little better location for nightlife and resturants.

A friend stayed at the House of Blues and had nothing but trouble. She was leading a large group, and business meeting.

One hotel to consider that you did not list are the W Hotels. There is one on Adams Street in the Loop and one by the lake off of Ontario. They are great, hip hotels. I like them far better than either of the other two mentioned. I think they have the service down and some great packages on the weekends. The City Center hotel is in the Loop, but on the weekends they have some pretty nice specials to encourage people to stay. Plus they are only 3 blocks from State Street. The Lakeshore hotel might be closer to what you are looking for. I have been in their bar on the top floor which is pretty cool also.
