Is there anyplace in the Lakeview area where you can get really great Chicago style pizza? I would think with Wrigley Field right there, you would be able to, but don't really recall hearing of any in the area. Seems most people talk of the ones downtown.

That's because most of the people who post on this issue don't live in Chicago, and insist that Uno's and Due's are the only places to go, even if they've never been anywhere else.

Tourists and certain suburbanites may balk at this, but the Art of Pizza has been rated #1 by the Chicago Tribune's Metromix.com poll. GREAT pizza, but the place isn't much to look at. It's a hole in the wall place at Wellington and Ashland. Pat's Pizza on Sheffield just south of Belmont is widely regarded as the best thin crust pizza in Chicago. There are branches of Gino's East, Giordano's, Nancy's (if it's still there) all in Lakeview.

I remember seeing someone post here about how after a Cub's game, they scrambled back downtown to eat dinner at Rosebud on Rush, which is about as tired, overrated and touristy as a restaurant gets. It's kind of a shame - there are so many wonderful neighborhood restaurants in the Lakeview area.

Pequod's is also great - although not technically in Lakeview (it's in the West DePaul neighborhood at Clybourn and Webster).

If you're looking for good information on neighborborood restaurants, you'd be better off at metromix.com and the Chicago Reader website. You will get good advice here sporadically, but generally it's all "Go to Uno's, Go to Maggiano's, Go to Rosebud, blah blah blah."

Lived there, done that

Go to Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder 2121 N. Clark. Very different and delicious. They do have a website. For everyday Chicago style I get Lou Malnati's, pan style,butter crust with pepperoni, mushrooms and onions. I'm not a sausage fan, and Malnati's really turns me off by putting a solid layer of sausage below the cheese & sauce. Sausage lovers should enjoy it, though. Boy, am I hungry now!!! PS - Uno and Due: P.U.!

I am just going to agree with everyone else....

A big fat NO to Uno and Due. Undercooked, oversauced pizza. Yuck!

I am going to second the recommendations for Pequod's and Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder.

If you can't make it to one of those, I would suggest such "chains" as Giordanos or Bacinos.

As an ex Chicagoan, I still love Lou Malnati's and Giordano's. My fave was the Gino's East on Superior, but understand it had moved. Is the quality still as good? Oh yum, how hungry you can make this California girl.

Pat's pizza is the best thin crust. And you can ask for Lou Malnati's to crumble the sausage instead of having that nasty patty on top.
