Christmas 2005: As You Travel...
in your car, visiting relatives or doing all that shopping, what are you/will you be listening to? Any new notable Christmas albums this year that you'd like to tell us about?
I'm listening to Alan Jackson's "Let It Be Christmas" at the moment, and when I was just out shopping, I was playing the fabulous Patty Lovelace album, "Bluegrass and White Snow" in the car. (Anyone else think that is the coolest "new-ish" album in years??? ) Stacked up to listen to as I decorate the tree are Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Celine Dion, The Judds, Frank Sinatra ... so many other wonderful ones!
Happy "Chrismas listening," all!

Barenaked for the Holidays by Barenaked Lades is my current fave for fun Christmas tunes. Love "Deck the Stills"!
But I'll definitely throw in whatever generic Christmas standards I have around also - it doesn't feel like Christmas without the classics.

I have bene listening to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra pretty much nonstop since their concert last week, lol! I am driving my family up the wall with it I am sure by the time Christmas gets here and we head to the WA cascades, my family will protest and make me listen to something else for a change.
I have that Celtic Christmas CD too and like it.

Tess and mms, I also like Celtic holiday music! I have a couple of them.
mms, you remind me of my good friend/exercise buddy, who saw TransSiberian Orchestra the other week here in Raleigh. Not only does she play it in her car constantly, but sings along!!! (Off-key! ) I've been begging her to put Vince Gill on ...

What a great post, Bonnie! And funny you should mention that particular Alan Jackson song--it's one of my favorite's and I've been humming it all day wondering where's that Alan Jackson cd! We really love the oldies, too--Bing Crosby, Sammy Davis, Barbara Streisand, Frankie, etc. Also really love Kenny G's Christmas cd.
Other music I've been listening to include Neil Young's latest, Prairie Wind; Trisha Yearwood's latest, Jasper County (I sound just like her when I'm alone in the car, swear! ;-) ) ; Coldplay and anything / everything by Mercy Me

I can't go very far in my car, but at home I will be listening to my usuals.
Harry Connick Jr.'s "When My Heart Finds Christmas"
Keeny G's "Miracles"
"Celtic Christmas"
Various Acoustic Guitar Christmas Songs
The one time the music will be off is when I traditionally watch 24 hours of "A Christmas Story" on TBS on Christmas Eve.

Honestly, you are misssing something if you don't go to the Cajun/Zydeco/Creole section of your music store and find a couple of CD's by some famous artists. There are several Cajun artists who have made Christmas albums, but my favorite is an older album from various Louisiana musicians. It's called simply "Creole Christmas" and contains pieces by Pete Fountain, Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, the Zydeco Twisters, and many others. It's a wonderful mixture of soulful gospel and upbeat tunes.

You are absolutely right, Wayne! Cajun Zydeco is some of the best music around. I was practically raised on it at my grandmother's house as a kid and have a lot of great CD's myself, but have never thought to buy any Cajun Christmas music. I'll have to check in to that.
