College-age roadtrip to Dallas-ideas
August 11-13 my friends and I are driving down to Dallas for a few days. We've thought about going to Six Flags and Jersey Boys is going to be in town too. Of course there's shopping too. Does anyone have other suggestions? This is a group of guys and girls, and we'll have cars.
We aren't interested in a rangers game or nightclubs, but places to eat (and stay-cheap but good location? What about the West End Hotel?) and just have fun in general are greatly appreciated!

Ok, I lived in Dallas a little while back.
If you want a once-in-a-lifetime crazy piano-bar setting head to Pete's Piano Bar in Addison (N. Dallas) for some unforgettably wild sing-a-long embarassment. Addison is reasonably close to downtown dallas and has 400+ restaurants in the little 4 square mile city limits!
Check out Bass Hall in Fort Worth to see what is playing. They present great Broadway comedies and musicals. If you find something there, go eat beforehand somewhere out by the Stock Yards
Restaurants;
Mattitos is fantastic Tex-Mex food in Downtown Dallas near the Crescent Hotel off of Hwy 75 Ask for their "special queso" and yo will not be sorry. It is named after a person and I can never remember the guy's name because their margarita's are fantastic!
of course, there are a million places to get Mexican, Tex-Mex or Southwest fare in Dallas. In the heart of Deep Ellum, Monica's has the Mexican thing down & the restaurant is quite lively. FUN times on the weekends at Monica's! There is even salsa dancing on Sunday...
MONICA'S In Deep Ellum
Phone: 214.748.7140
Address: 2914 Main St., Dallas, TX. 75226
Directions: In Deep Ellum at the corner of Main St. and Malcolm X BLVD.

For a retro 80's vegas-style cover band, find out where LE Freak is playing. I know you said you didnt want bars, but these guys are funny!

The West End is a fun area, but I am not certain on the hotel.
I would stay at the Bradford Suites, they are clean and easy to get to. It depends on what part of town you plan to be in though!

If you or someone you know is familiar with the "name your own price" feature on Priceline, you might get a good deal on a hotel in the downtown area. Down there you will find not only the West End, but the Sixth Floor Museum and the Dallas World Aquarium. There's a free trolley downtown that goes to some cool areas you might like for shopping and eating.
Don't know if you like water parks, but there's one of those near Six Flags, too.

I think for college age group, that the Uptown area would be the most fun to focus on. Downtown is pretty dead on the weekends, but just north of the highway (Woodall Rogers) is a really fun area with tons of restaurants, bars, shopping where you can safely walk around or take the free trolley. Some inexpensive restaurants I enjoy are:
Jake's Hamburgers
Grimaldi's Pizzaria
Breadwinner's (best for brunch)
Village Burger Bar
Taco Diner
Primo's
Mattito's
Here are some links with general info about this area. Any highway is easy to access for Six Flags trip etc.

For hotel, there is a La Quinta on Central Expressway between Henderson and Fitzhugh that has rooms around $99. I think that would be ideal location for being in center of places college age people normally would hang out (Uptown, Lower Greenville, Knox/Henderson, Mockingbird Station). Most of the uptown hotels are pretty high-end, but there is Hyatt Summerfield Suites on Harry Hines that might have decent deals.
Shopping - West Village, Mockingbird Station, and Northpark Mall should have something for everyone. Highland Park Village is beautiful and has good inexpensive restaurants (Mi Cocina and Patrizio's) but most shops are pretty pricey.

DEFINITELY go to Pete's! You will LOVE it! But honestly, I like the location in Fort Worth's Sundance Square better. Sundance Square has tons of fun restaurants and bars, and it's very walkable at night. There are also free outdoor concerts during the spring and fall.

Yeah the WDW thing isn't going to work. It's impossible to coordinate a trip that long when we all work or/and are out of the country studying abroad.
Anyway, I think I'll look into some of the areas just north of downtown. Thanks for all of the advice, keep it coming!
