Considering West YNP, 3 nts lodging ,2 nts at Jackson Lake Lodge in GTNP
We are taking our first trip and leaving July 25th to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. We need advice asap on changing our reservations. We are spending 5 nights total in the Yellowstone/Grand Teton area.
We have a reservation at Jackson Lake Lodge for the entire time in GTNP.
We are coming into Cody from the east from Rapid City, South Dakota.
After reading several responses on our itinerary we think the daily/nightly drive from GTNP to YNP might be a bit much.
Would you agree we should get standard accomodations in West Yellowstone and drive in from the west entrance for 3 nights and the last 2 nights stay in The Grand Tetons?
(All other lodging in the parks, (not camping), is booked/ full).
Thanks again for all your help!
Jen

You would waste a lot of time driving to/from the twio parks each day. If you can, stay in Yellowstone, if not, West Yellowstone is a good alternative. Jackson Lake Lodge of Signal Mountain Lodge are both good choices in GTNP.

I think you would be much better off in West Yellowstone for the days you want to visit Yellowstone than driving back and forth from GTNP.
I'd try first for cancellations within the park at Old Faithful and then try West Yellowstone.

I've been checking into cancellations "faithfully" and as of last night , no luck. What would you think about us staying in Cody the first night(after an 8-10 drive from SD) and then the next two nights in West Yellowstone or Old Faithful and then continue to GTNP for the last 2 nights?
This feedback has been easing my mind sooo much. Thanks so very much!

Cody sounds like the place to stop. By staying in Cody you will be freshed and ready to enjoy Yellowstone the next day. While on the east side of the park visit the Canyon area and consider doing Tower Falls and Mammoth Hot Springs depending on your time.
