Dinner in Chelsea
We are arriving NYC about 6PM (Aug 13) and will probably be settled and ready to go out to dinner about 8:30PM. Don't want to go far from our apartment on W. 22nd. Can you reccommend an inexpensive to moderate restuarant that might have a variety to please 5 people - 2 are fussy. (One of those is an adult....) Am considering Lamarca, but the restaurants I have in mind for the next nite near the Gershwin are Italian.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure where on W. 22nd Street your apartment is - Didn't you ask a question about 8th Avenue, before? - but Lamarca is on East 22nd and 3rd Avenue - at least 3 long blocks east. Perhaps you should consult a map - that may be a bit farther than you want to walk, particularly in August heat/humidity. If you are west of 6th Avenue, Lamarca is not worth the walk- it's OK, a glorified takeout place, but not worth walking more than a short block or two if there or no better choices . . . it's cheap.
In any case, assuming you're staying on W. 22nd Street (West starts at 5th Avenue and goes toward the Hudson River) you might be ok at the Empire Diner (pretty plain, simple food, not great, but OK, in an authentic diner car) even better would be Cookshop - a bit west but much better food - more upscale New American, farm fresh and local . .. worth the extra $.
Or you could try the Comfort Diner on W. 23rd and 5th - simple, OK food, good shakes and burgers.
There is a very good BBQ place - RUB on W. 23rd and 7th Avenue. Informal, friendly, easy.
When you're looking at the price range of Lamarca, really mostly ethnic restaurants or diners match the $$. There are tons of Thai, Mexican, French, Greek and Italian places on 7th and 8th Avenues in the 20's - here's a suggestions for each of those:
Thai - nooch or Spice
French - Gascogne
Mexican - Suenos or Rocking Horse Cafe
Greek - Nisos
Italian - Le Zie
Austrian - Klee Brasserie (on 9th Avenue)
All of these are a bit more than Lamarca, but the food is much better . . .

Yes, I had asked about Breakfast in Chelsea previously. daughter heading to FIT. We are staying at 9th & 22nd. I thought lamarca was W. 22. Thanks for pointing that out. No, don't want to travel esp for "okay".
Thanks for those ideas. Exactly what I'm looking for.
