I don't know what to suggest for meeting people. Generally speaking I recommend for most people that you want to stay right in downtown Seattle, for ease of getting around.

Do you plan to rent a car? Or do you want to get around only on public transportation? Either can work.

As far as popular things to see & do I think: the Pike Place Market, Pioneer Square historic district, Smith Tower, Chinatown/International district, the Waterfront, Seattle Center/Space Needle are probably considered the "must dos". Secondarily and according to interest: Experience Music Project, Olympic Sculpture Park, Seattle Art Museum, ferry rides, the Woodland Park Zoo, the aquarium.

Thank You! How is the weather out there in October? Does Seattle have a good downtown scene? In Houston it's dead.
Would you recommend any must eat restaurants?

I like the Tom Douglas restaurants...he's probably our best known chef, but there are others. His restaurants are Lola, Dahlia Lounge, Etta's Seafood and Serious Pie, plus he just opened a new one in Pike Place Market and I'm not sure of the name. Hmmm...downtown scene...I think it's considered pretty good, but I'm in an age bracket that probably doesn't have my finger on the pulse of that. Another good place for meeting people, other than downtown Seattle, is in the Woodinville wine tasting rooms. Woodinville is a suburb of Seattle, but most of the best wineries in the state, including many from Walla Walla, have tasting rooms in there.

Generally, Seattle has great Asian or Asian fusion food. Excellent sushi. But there are very good restaurants in all food categories. Check out Yelp or Trip Advisor for top rated ones in your favorite categories.

the new Tom Douglas place, next to Etta's is called Seatown Snackbar. it looks to be more casual.

Seattle has a reasonably vibrant downtown, especially in the areas around the Pike Place Market and Belltown. beyond that the 'scene' i think is more out in the neighborhoods like Capitol Hill, Ballard, Fremont, etc.

for don't miss restaurants the Tom Douglas ones are all good. I like the Dahlia Lounge best. it's very comfortable for solo dining (they have great little two person booths). Or something more lively Lola's is directly across the street.

I really like Wann's on 2nd, a Japanese Izakaya style restaurant. And I've heard Long's Provincial Vietnamese is good, also on 2nd.

There's plenty of bars around, in and near the Market, along 1st and 2nd... Whiskey Bar, Spur, Black Bottle, Frontier Room, Belltown Billiards, See Sound, to name just a few. For music Crocodile, Jazz Alley, Tula's, or Triple Door.

Would any of you guys recommend a tour? I was thinking about the Seattle by foot tours. But I am not exactly sure of they are worth it?

Pike Place Market organization runs tours of the Market.
Savor Seattle has several walking & food tours.
Greyline has a red double-decker, hopon/hopoff bus.
See Seattle is another one.
Ride the Duck.

Or get a map (from your hotel or the information kiosk at the entrance to the Market) and do your own on foot (Metro bus, monorail, streetcar). Just depends your interests.
