Dumb question - Where to buy "cool" t-shirts in NYC?

We are staying in Times Square for a few days. My teen/tween sons want to find some different and cool tshirts. I am not really sure what cool means. Any suggestions?

Ask your kids what cool means.

Lots of cheap tshirts for sale in Battery Park, along 6th avenue, times square, and, of course, in some clothing stores.

I did ask. Answer: "You know...cool."

Thank you for the suggestions. I forgot about street vendors.

Urban Outfitters is the cool T-shirt store ... there are three in Manhattan... 3rd... Ave of the Americas... and Broadway... they are not cheap, but they won't shred after one washing like the vendor shirts........ good luck!

Agree that Urban Outfitters has cool stuff, but it's a large chain store so be aware of that (you don't want to buy something you can get at home).

Check out Brooklyn Industries...they have some "cool" graphic t-shirts and several locations in NYC. Your kids can preview the website and see if it's "cool" enough for them.

If you want something terribly and totally NYC, check out Henri Bendel or Bloomingdales for their brands.

Last time I was in Manhattan, I spent a lot of time looking for quality t-shirts (NOT "I heart NY" T-shirts) that were unique and NYC-specific. The best stores I found for decent t-shirts were the ones that sell Broadway show memorabilia...can't recommend any one specifically, but there are several in the Times Square area.

Get out of Times Square and go to Soho or St. Marks (cheaper).

In the municipal center near City Hall - The City Store -- I recently got a Department of Environmental Protection shirt that says The Legend Lives in honor of the 75th anniversary of the alligator myth

Everyone's idea of "cool" is different. I'm told Yellow Rat Bastard is one place some kids find cool. http://www.yrbnyc.com/shop/category/8/Tops

You have two choices in NYC. There are "cool" T-shirts like D-Squared (high design), which are as much as the 100s (each), and there are "cool" T-shirts from Uniqlo that are about $20. While Urban Outfitters is also "cool' in some circles, most kids might be more interested in Yellow Rat Bastard on Broadway. Those would be my suggestions at least.

Brooklyn Industries is also a good place, and there are several stores. The original in Brooklyn and also one in Manhattan on Lafayette (among others).

Social Tees for political stuff

The NYPD/NYFD had a store dedicated to the stuff, I think they are on Greenwich Ave now.

There is a store on Avenue A between 8 and 10 (I do not remember the exact streets obviously) that has many odd T-shirts

Saint Marks between First and Second has nore t-shirts to annoy a mother than any other street.

Cool t-shirts also means those will have holes after one washing.

Brooklyn Industries for NYC centric T shirts

Also vendors at The Market in Nolita may have some "cool" t-shirts. Shops in Nolita might be your best bet (Supreme, Triple 5 Soul, etc)

Also Blade Board and Skate usually has interesting T-shirts
