Embassy Suites Chicago

I am planning on traveling to Chicago this summer with my family and I was would appreciate any comments on the Embassy Suites at 600 North State Street or the other Embassy Suites, which is located at 511 North Columbus Drive.

Thanks!

I'd consider the N. State Street location more convenient to Michigan Avenue shopping/hotels, etc...roughly 5-10 minutes less walking to get home after a tiring day. The Columbus Dr. property is, I think, newer. But ES is a pretty solid, dependable chain and I'd guess your quality of accommodations at either will be reasonably good.

We have decided to stay at one of the Embassy Suites in Chicago. Since both rates are similar, WHICH one is better for sight-seeing, (all kinds) and shopping?

arrjay's reply is confusing when I see both locations on the map...???

Thank you so VERY much for any and all responses!

Our family stayed at the Embassy Suites on State Street in April. The hotel was very conveniently located for the activities we had planned: shopping, museums, etc. The Rock and Roll Mcdonalds, Ed Debevic's and Gino's Pizza were all good restaurants for the kids, and were within walking distance of the hotel. Also the pool, although small, was convenient to use. Most of hotels in downtown Chicago don't appear to have one.

Both are in good locations, although the one on Columbus is newer.

I think.??

Thank you for your replies. This will only be for my husband and myself this time, NO kids! So I don't think we'll be using a pool anyway this trip.

Any other ideas? Please?

Thanks again all!

We stayed at the ES at N. State Street last fall and were very disappointed. Very poorly managed and understaffed. Maybe that has changed. However, if you are traveling w/o children there are many other elegant hotels near or on the magnificent mile which would be nice-the Intercontinental (which also has a beautiful pool), Hotel Monaco, Omnis. check quikbook.com for some great rates on chicago hotels or just do a chicago search to see some of your choices.

If you want a suite hotel that's very convenient, try the Homewood Suites by Hilton on Grand. It's only one block off of Michigan Ave. and very well run. Includes breakfast. Better location than either of the ES's. Good luck.

Thanks Ann!

Are Homewood Suites new? I haven't heard of them, but I am a member of the Hilton Honors Program! ??

Anyone else stay there?

Hi,
I don't know if Homewood Suites Chicago is new, but it's discrete! The enterence is just a door...the street area is a bellman's desk and a small sofa/waiting area. Take the elevators up to the actual lobby on about the 7th floor (don't remember exactly). It's very nice. Their URL is:

Hope you like it, and yes, it's a member of the Hilton points system.

Here's another vote for Homewood Suites. The location is better than either of the two Embassy Suites location. My kids loved the free breakfast, though I wasn't too thrilled (the standard buffet stuff). We could eat there or take it to our room. There is (or was two years ago) a good coffee house right across the street.
