Energy charges added to our hotel bill

Hilton in Southbury, CT put on our bill $3.00 for energy cost.

I know itsn't much but what energy crises do they have in mind?
When we called to sked they said they add this charge to every bill.
This is not very sattisfying explanation

Did you hear about this kind of charge?
Did you check your hotel bill closely?
Did you just dismissed this small amount or did you do something about it?

There was a lawsuit in California that overturned the energy charges. The hotels are having to return the charged fees.

Was this recent, Betty? I haven't heard of anyone doing this in quite some time. Seems to me it was about a year ago that *some* hotels started adding that charge, but most quickly discontinued it.

FIGHT IT. Are some hotels still charging a security fee because a safe is in the room?

Marriott added charge to my bill some time ago.

As soon as I questioned it. the clerk quickly removed the charge.

I work in the industry and can tell you that these charges have been eliminated by almost every hotel company.
Very strange that you were charged.
Question it if it's worth it to you.

The Atlantis hotel in Reno charges $3/night "energy charge". I didn't question it, I'm afraid, b/c my bill was paid by my employer, but I will in future. They should be ashamed of themselves, but they never are...

Municipalities are infamous for adding taxes to pay for local projects. In San Antonio they built a $175 million stadium this year which will be entirely payed for by hotel and rental car sercharges.
