Family Vacation

We will be going to Massachussetts in mid June for a family celebration. We will be meeting up with another family and would like to plan a week either on the Cape or Newport, Rhode Island. We will be four adults and four children ranging from 7-12. Any suggestions as to where to go would be helpful.
Thank you

Where you go at this point may hinge on availability. June is an extremely busy month in Newport and the Cape: graduations, weddings, Father's Day....

But, your destination depends on what you are looking for - we have spent and enjoyed weeks in both locations with our children at all ages

But what are you looking for?

Newport will give you things like:
ten mile drive
the mansions
tennis hall of fame
beaches, nature walks
the wharf area with all the shops, restaurants and arcades
Fort Adams park
Newport Harbor/ sailing day tours

try gonewport.com and see what the area has to offer.

The Cape: well that depends where you go -
some areas are more 'beach towns' than others -
you could try and find lodging centrally so you could have some beach days, hiking, quaint downtowns with shops, restaurants and perhaps plan a day trip to Provincetown, whale watching, and possibly even a day trip to one fo the islands like Nantucket -

If you put into the search this forum bar things like "newport" and "newport, rhode island" and even "trip report: newport, ri" and then do the same for combinations of the cape/ Cape Cod/ Provincetown/ Brewster, Chatham, Osterville - Trip Report/ Itinerary Cape Cod - that type of combo
you will get a ton of posts on the left to read through that might give you some ideas of what would appeal to you and the kids -

I think you also need to think about what type of lodging are you looking for - hotel rooms, an Inne, renting a house?

Thank you. We are looking for a beach area, with some site seeing, fun things to do with kids. I will check out the links and search this forum. I appreciate the advice.

Hmmm...I'll be in Newport that weekend for a bachelorette party, so my suggestions are probably not child friendly Have a great trip!

I'd vote for the Cape if you want pretty beaches. Newport if you need more activity.

Your kids are great ages for the Cape with lots of fun things to do like biking the Rail Trail, beaching it, whale watches, etc.

I would encourage you to consider renting a house for that size group. Check out www.weneedavacation.com. Mid-June is still considered "off-season" so you will get a better deal.

I can be more specifically helpful if you send me an email: [email protected]
