I will be in Easthampton and I want to visit a friend inBridgeport, Cn. Can I do this by going on a ferry, with my car, from somewhere on the North Shore of Long Island, NY?

The Orient Point Ferry takes you to New London, CT. The Port Jeff ferry takes you to Bridgeport. I would recommend making a reservation if you plan to take your car on the ferry. You can make reservations online. You can also park and walk on the ferry if you are only going for the day. Check the following website for ferry service and website links.

Been there done that

We took the ferry from Bridgeport CT to Pt. Jefferson NY, what a great ride!! We did not have reservations, the vehicles line up and then after the boat has docked and unloaded you drive on. Get there early and watch this, we were amazed, the large ferry did a 180 to unload, I was early enough that I was first on, first off, we were parked at the nose of the boat that opens to let you off, I filmed in on video, it was that cool. After boarding lock your car, go on deck and watch the city disappear. We had lunch on board, snack shop type stuff. It was a great forty five minutes (cost about $45). I will never drive thru NYC again!!!

Do you really end up saving time by taking the ferry from Conn to LI? I need to end up on the South Shore, near Lido Beach.

We have used the ferry twice from New London on our way to E. Hampton. It was well worth itto avoid driving all the way into NY and then out again to E.H. We also used the smaller ferries to Sag Harbor instead of driving into Riverhead and back out to E.H. I would think it would be worth it going to Lido Beach also.
The New London ferry we were on is a converted LST that saw action in France in WW2.

The fastest route is to use Port Jefferson to Bridgeport ferry.

The Orient Point/New London ferry is much more scenic (with two short ferries - Sag Harbor to Shelter Island, then Shelter Island to Greemport) a short drive to Orient Point, then a long ferry (1-1/2 hours to New London.) but will take you quite a bit longer to do.
