Ferry from Long Island NY to?
Is there a ferry from Long Island to Mass. or Rhode Island? My final destination is Martha's Vineyard and I have to get to the Ferry in Woods HOle and I'm sick of driving the whole way up. Thanks

Only direct service Montauk to Martha's Vineyard is from this company: www.vikingfleet.com. Their "infrequent" service now means just ONE sailing all season on 8/13/06. Passenger only.
The only regular, reasonable ferry service is from Orient Point to New London, and it's a car ferry. www.longislandferry.com That can cut down some of your driving. Then you can take a passenger ferry from Quonset Point, RI (south of Providence) to MV: www.vineyardfastferry.com
If you need your car on MV, then you have to drive out to Wood's Hole.

There is also a ferry from Port Jefferson to Bridgeport Ct. which saves some driving west if you're mid island. Here's a page with links to all the ferries
