Flagstaff to Sedona - 89A or I-17?
Yahoo maps says it's over an hour (from Flagstaff to Oak Park) on I-17, but 40 min. on 89A. I thought 89A was a windy mountain road with switchbacks, etc. to slow you down??
Will be coming from the airport in Flagstaff to Sedona, then one day back up to go to the Grand Canyon.
Thanks all!

We drove this in early April, The sign says 26 miles to Sedona, but it will take close to an hour.
Don't miss this drive! I grew up in the Southwest and I thought this road was a real thrill and very scenic.
89A all the way!

If you a going from Flagstaff to Sedona, you will get great vistas on 89A. An yes, it does take longer than you would think.
We took it from Sedona to Flagstaff. On the way back we were tired and fighting a virus, so we skipped the windy road and took the freeway back to Sedona.

My biggest problem was getting losy in Flagstaff and nobody could help me with how to get to Sedona.
After several attempts I found my way.
Take the scenic route and stop at the viewpoint at the top of the canyon.

Flagstaff to Sedona via 89A - this is the scenic way to go and it is much better going in this direction as the views are much better and you are on the inside lane which is better for the nervous drivers.
