Florida: Marriott Beach Place( Ft. Lauderdale) or Marriott Ocean Pointe ( Singer Island)??? Need help deciding!!!

We have a chance to stay @ Marriott Beach Place Towers in Ft. Lauderdale or Marriott Ocean Pointe on Singer Island in late February. Which would you choose and why?
Looking for good beach for swimming & long walks, nicely appointed 2BR suite, good restaurants in close proximity, spacious oceanview balcony. Have not been to either property so we really need help in selecting which wld. be best for us. Which wld. you choose?
Thanks!

Susan, I cannot compare the 2 perhaps someone else will offer some advice and comparisons as you are seeking. I can tell you the Marriott Beach Towers are great. The best in Ft. Lauderdale. I happen to like Ft. Lauderdale I think it is a great place. Plenty of restaurants, shopping, enough to keep me occupied for a week. I am not sure of Singer Island. I would not have any problems with staying at the Marriott Beach Towers, or going to the beach all day or going for walks. There is also a tour that goes to Miami on certain days via the ocean. Plenty to do.

In my opinion the Marriott Beach Place Towers is great. The beach is private close to a lot of great restaurants such as Mark's Las Olas and the rooms are well appointed. We stayed there last year in November. Can't remark on Ocean Pointe haven't stayed there yet.

We were underwhelmed by the Ocean Pointe when we visited there. We were happy to be staying elsewhere, at much lower rates.

Can't comment on the Marriott because I haven't been to it.

Thanks to all who have responded! I wonder if x cld. possibly elaborate on his/her "underwhelming" with Ocean Pointe?
Was it the beach? the suites? the pool area? restaurants? the close proximity of the 3 buildings (with a 4th to be built soon I understand) or what? Any comments on your overall impression wld. be greatly appreciated.
Anyone else have anything to say about these 2 properties?
Thanks!
Susan

Susan-
Singer Island is across a bridge from Palm Beach--you have to drive long distances to get anywhere--

THe Mariott Towers is in FT LAUD.-while you will need a car to get around, you are wayyyyyyyyy closer to what is going on---Not stuck out in the middle of nowhere--
Las Olas Blvd is bustling with great restaurants and shops- and the FL beach is GORGEOUS! very wide and huge and newly restored beach area with a long sidewalk to walk or rollerblade on if you don't want to walk in the sand....

Thanks, Andy! Well, it's looking like FL is the place to be! However, I wld. still like to have a few more comments on Ocean Pointe: How wld. you describe the beach @ Ocean Pointe? Is it a good beach for swimming/walking? And, are there any restaurants (even 1 or 2!) in close proximity? Is there a grocery store near Ocean Pointe?

Hi,
I lived in W. Palm for years and went to Singer Is. practically every w/e. I can't compare the hotels as I never needed to stay in one, but will tell you Ft. Laud, as a destination, has more to offer. The beaches in both towns are going to be about the same; but Riviera Beach, which is where Singer Is. is, is NOT the greatest area (esp. after dark). You would have no need to do anything more than drive through it...Palm Beach is about 10-15 min. drive from Singer Is. and is very, very nice. It's smaller and quieter than Lauderdale but has fine restaurants.

hi, i stayed at the sheraton on singer island, which was right near the marrriott ocean pointe. we rented a car, so we could drive to palm beach for shopping and restaurants, and also could drive to nice mall (when it rained- gorgeous upscale mall with bloomingdales etc, right near ssinger island). the pool and beach at marriott ocean pointe are ok, but nothing like shown on website. also, lots of marriott ocean pointe was still under construction, so some rooms had awful views of construction and construction noise beginning at 7am on weekdays. so make sure that you are nowhere near a construction view, though most hotels will say that they can not assign specific rooms this far in advance. good luck, karen

I've stayed at the Beach Place Towers several times over the past few months and can tell you that I have not been impressed once. I have since switched to the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort which is stunning. The beach across the street from the Beach Towers is not private. You have to enter the hotel from a parking garage and you can hear EVERYTHING in your room, considering the hotel is connected to an outdoor "mall" with Hooters, Sloppy Joe's, etc. It's a great place if you are 21 and interested in drinking all night.

Yikes! Not 21 & not interested in partying...at all! Sounds awful!

I like your idea of Harbor Beach Resort & that does sound more like what we are looking for. The problem is that we have a chance to stay @ Beach Place or Ocean Pointe. Perhaps we shd. pass on this "chance" & start planning anew.

Please advise the best Marriott property (including Marriott/Residence Inns/Courtyard/Towne Place, etc.) in or very close to South Beach. Looking for upscale and an atmosphere NOT like Spring Break).

sounds like you are getting a cheapo rate for a timeshare presentation as both "hotels" you mention are actually time shares or Interval Ownership as they try to call them. The Beach Place is finished so there is probably less hard sell than the Singer Island place. You can stay at the Ft. Lauderdale one and ask for a western exposure or an intracoastal view with a high elevation. That should eliminate the noise from the group of restaurants and bars that are clustered on the first four floors of the building. Not a draw back but this is a more urban setting than most time shares.

Western exposure, IC view is a good suggestion. Will look into it! Thx for your reply!
