French Laundry - Napa

I am planning my first CA trip next summer and am considering including the French Laundry restaurant in my itinerary. I have always seen it mentioned here at Fodors.

I assume it is very good. I have looked for a website to see pics, menu, etc., and have only been able to find information on the founding chef.

When I search here at Fodors, all I find are comments like "Make sure you reserve two-months in advance," "Coat and tie expected," and "Very expensive."

Fodorites... Any more specific comments on this establishment? Thanks!

Happy Trails,
Paul

I just did a google.com and came up right away with the restaurant's website complete with menu, etc. It was the very first entry for "french laundry". I didn't see any prices. I guess if you have to ask, then you can't afford it. Also, it doesn't look like a place where you can just drop in the day before and make a reservation. More like a couple of weeks or...more? Soon as my stocks begin to recuperate (I'm not holding my breath!) I'm thinking of giving that place a try!

On a cooking board I frequent several have been to it. It is apparently a real "trick" to even get a reservation. You must start calling on the 2 month (or whatever time interval is what they say they will accept reservations) DAY and just stay on the phone until you reach them. Apparently it is a culinary experience.

Thanks for your kind replies. Would you believe that I finally made it to (and bookmarked) the Zagats.com site?

Would love to hear of any personal visits if you so desire.

Happy Trails,
Paul

The other night on FoodNetwork's "A Cook's Tour" they ate at the French Laundry. It looked amazing! As close to European Haute Cuisine as you are probably going to get in the states.
