That's a tough one. Ft Myers beach is wonderful, but slightly cheesy. Naples is wonderful too, but slightly EXPENSIVE. Marco could be a copmromise, but it is pretty pricey too. Try a condo on Sanibel, that should be a better fit.

I'll throw another wrench in the works and suggest Siesta Key. Beautiful beach and quiet, however, just a few miles away is Sarasota and Rt. 41 with a little more hustle and bustle. Marco Island is very, very quiet, IMO, dining options are so-so. Fort Myers Beach found us driving a fair distance to go out to dinner each night--but the consideration here is you are in close proximity to Sanibel/Captiva for a day trip. I think all of your selections would be family friendly.

Marco and Sanibel are great places for quiet family vacations. If they enjoy the beach, pool, ocean kayaking, sailing, long walks on the beach looking for shells, that's where you want to go. Look for a condo directly on the water. South Seas Tower IV in Marco is a nice quiet place and a great location. It's the last condo on the beach overlooking Tiger Tail Park. Check with a local Real Estate Agent in Marco for availibility and rates, or try the local paper (Marco Eagle), or VRBO on line. The Marco Mariott is also nice, although more action and a little more busy, and pricey that time of year. Good Luck!

My vote is for Samibel. I felt isolated on Marco- not a whole lot to do. Limited dining IMO.
I woulod go for Samibel , more dining options, and Ft. Myers is a short drive away-

Just came back from Marco Island with 2 small children (younger than yours).

We thought that it was really great and served our purpose as a family resort.

There is not much to do - if you like long walks on the beach and swimming then it is perfect. The beach is beautiful with white silky sand similar to the Caribbean.

We saw dolphins every day and loads of birds.

Dining options are limited - mostly so-so places a notch up from fast food.

If you want better dining though, Naples is pretty close and I would suggest eating some dinners there.

We stayed in the South Seas Towers and it was a little run down but you can't beat the location - right on the beach. There were some people ranting about how far the beach is from the condo complex but I say - WALK! It isn't that far (3 minutes!) and after lazing around in the sun, a few minute walk isn't going to hurt you!!!

We have never been to Sanibel but are considering it for next year's vacation.

Enjoy!
