Georgetown: Latham Hotel or Georgetown Inn
Hello: My husband and I and our 2 girls (ages 9 & 15) want to do the touristy Georgetown experience for a night in July when in the D.C. area. Can anyone comment on which of these two properties might be better situated "IN" Georgetown? Is one or the other better suited for a family? The rates are similar so I'm just trying to see which one might provide the best location. I had initially also looked at the Holiday Inn Georgetown but I think it's a bit out of the way. Really apprecaite any feedback.

I don't know anything about either hotel, but since no one has replied I can at least tell you both are well located in Georgetown. The commercial heart of Georgetown fans out from where M Street and Wisconsin Ave. intersect. The Latham is on M, and the Georgetown Inn is on Wisconsin, each of them a few blocks from where the streets intersect. You might want to try tripadvisor regarding the hotels. What is it you're looking to do in Georgetown? At night, particularly on weekends, and particularly in the summer, it is really packed with people going out to eat and drink. I wouldn't think it would be ideal for kids, though you can probably avoid the craziness if you're not out too late.

Thanks so much Doriana for your response. Sounds like either property offers a good location. We're not looking for anything in particular - just to experince Georgetown.
Thanks again.......

The hotels aren't that far from each other, actually.,,just a matter of a few blocks. The Latham is a bit fancier and has a beautiful, highly-rated (& expensive) restaurant - Citronelle. The Georgetown is right in the thick of shopping and it is quite nice. Just try to get a room facing the street instead of the back. There are great places to eat nearby - the very popular Paolo's is right across the street. Awesome food (I know the staff & chef)...from fancy cuisine to the brick oven pizzas - and fun for the girls. Keep in mind that it IS a bar/restaurant, however.
Georgetown is easy to walk, the shopping is good (though Alexandria is better), and don't miss going down to the waterfront just to walk or to have dinner one night (or lunch).
Have fun! I'm jealous...love it there.
