Hawaii, interisland using FF miles

In reading some of the posts in other threads, I've learned that you can use FF miles from Northwest on Hawaiian Airline flights. And also, United and Aloha have the same kind of partnership.

I have enough NW and United miles and would like to make a couple of trips.

At only 5,000 miles, that's a great deal.

My questions to those who have done this with the airlines mentioned or any others:

1. Did you make the reservation through Hawaiian Airlines? or Northwest?

2. Do you have to be a member of both FF clubs?

3. Were you able to make the reservations online?

4. Do you have any toll free number I can use?

5. Do you have any more information that may help?

6. Do you know of any other airlines that have the same kind of partnerships?

Go to the airline website of the airline you have FF miles with. It will answer all of your questions. When I wanted to use Alaska Airlines FF miles to book an interisland flight on Hawaiian Air, I called Alaska Airlines. I don't think you need to be a Hawaiian Airlines member to book the flights using another airline's FF miles.

FWIW, I was unable to get the flights I wanted. I think they have very few seats available for FF miles. Good luck.

Aloha dusty#s,
To use Northwest Airlines FF miles on Hawaiian Airlines, you Northwest preferably after viewing the Hawaiian airlines flight schedule (on their website) or tell the NW agent your travel 's, and ask for the Hawaiian Airlines Flight(e.g.HA#123). In my experience the HA flight# shows up also as a (different#) Northwest Flight (e.g.NW#456), despite the flight being on Hawaiian Air.
Continental and American also partner with Hawaiian Airlines so you can redeem their miles for flights but the number of miles required to redeem per HA flight varies between FF programs.

United is the only FF partner of Aloha that I am aware of and you do not need to belong to HA's or Aloha's FF program to redeem miles from other carriers (i.e., United, CO, NW, AA, etc)

NW changed the mileage requirement for interisland awards on Hawaiian to 10K miles as of March 2005. Alaska, AA, & Continental are also 10K. The only program left that I know of at the 5K redemption level is UA on Aloha - a good deal if you can get seats.

To make reservations using NW or UA miles on partner airlines, you would call NW Worldperks (800-447-3757) or UA Mileage Plus (800-421-4655) award reservations. You don't need to belong to Hawaiian or Aloha's ff programs. You can't book interisland awards online with NW or UA.

The way UA works is you have to request a specific flight on a specific day. They don't have real time access to Aloha award availability. The next day or a few hours later, you check back to see if the seats you requested were approved. If not, you repeat the same process again. It can be a real PITA and you'll be charged a $15 fee for making the award reservation by phone even though there's no other way to do it.

NW has a similar process. Good luck!
