Hotel helps in Ft. Lauderdale

Can anyone recommend a good hotel with a nice pool and close to the bar areas (I believe they are las olas and the riverwalk area) please tell me if I am wrong!!

I have read the Marriott Marina but it is over $289 a night, I can't spend more than about $189/night! Thanks

Check the Riverside Hotel right on Las Olas, with a pretty pool area next to the New River. I'm not sure about pricing these days.
The Marriott Marina isn't "close" by the way, although you can take the water taxi to the bars.

How is the Best Western Paradise beach? Decent rates, is this close to nightlife?

I guess I'm confused. Do you want to be on the beach OR do you want to be close to the nightlife and bars of Las Olas and Riverwalk?

Patrick - We are considering the Riverside Hotel, Pillars, Renaissance and Pelican Beach Resort for nights that are not available at Lago Mar our first choice. Could you comment on each if you are familiar with them. We have seen the rooms at the Riverside Tower though we didn't stay there. With the exception of the Pillars they are quoting similar rates in the $160/$170 range. The Pillars is more like $195.

That seems low for Pelican! We stayed there mid March & it was a lot more than that!Ask if that quote is for the "new" hotel or the old one.

wow - I'll have to check further but I'm also checking for the end of May which should be less expensive rates than your mid-March trip. Actually, I thought the old hotel was completely gone.

I bid on Priceline for this area and got the Renaissance on 17th St. for $105 a night with the taxes.

It's a couple of blocks to the water taxi and access to everything on the water taxi- that same distance to the Marriott Marina. If it was that in Feb. -it has to be much lower now. Bid 4 star on Priceline.

I'm afraid I must pass on being of much further help. Of the hotels you mention, I've stayed only at the Riverside (and that was before the new tower was even built) but I loved the place, and at the new Renaissance, which had nice rooms, but is far removed from walking to much of anything.

I can't think of The Pillars but it sure sounds familiar. But I think for your convenience and location, I'd probably go with the Riverside in the heart of the "action".

Patrick - Thanks for the reply. I agree that the Riverside has the best location of those I mentioned.
