Hotel La Jolla at the Shores--reviews?

Thinking about staying there in late June vs. La Valencia. I fear La Valencia will be too crowded with drunk wedding guests.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Have looked at some hotels in La Jolla closer to the beach but they look a bit dated. La Jolla shores is on the bluffs but the view looks lovely. At La Valencia we would get an ocean view room but I also hear that the rooms are tiny!

Thoughts? I did a search but did not find specific reviews of La Jolla at the Shores.

Also looking at the Best Western Island Palms Hotel and Marina in Shelter Island--any thoughts on this one?

La Valencia is certainly a good hotel with historic charme.

However, we decided for Scripp's Inn and were very satisfied with our choice. The location is perfect - you are close to surf & seals and you have the La Jolla restaurant district in easy walking distance.

HI..
I live in LJ and Hotel La Jolla is in the Shores about 2-3 blocks away from the LJ Shores Beach and it is not on a bluff..for the price of under $200 with expansive ocean view you can't go wrong and they have a shuttle service to downtown LJ which is about 3-5 minutes away (depending on traffic)

I live very close to La V and it is one of my fav's but you will pay a hefty price for a very small room unless you get the new suites where the rich and famous stay and you get your own butler..
I love to have drinks at the Whaling bar and have brunch on the terrace overlooking the cove which is stunning!
lavalencia.com
I love The Grande Colonial Inn in LJ right down the street from La V and it is charming and perfect location...
rooms are around $200-300..

You can check to see if the Sea Lodge is available..it is oceanfront at the Shores not as refined as the others but the location is fab!

As far as Scripps Inn.. it is cute but in a different league than the others but charming and a great location on Coast blvd.. around $165-350

If you are on somewhat on a budget, I would check out the LJ Cove Suites..

Do not do the BW Palms in Shelter Island..not that it is that bad but why pay the same price or close to it when you have the most gorgeous city in the world..
Stay in LJ!
I use Expedia.com but also check direct with the hotels too..
Have fun..
