Hotels in Lake George and Lake Placid
My family with 7 year old kid is planning to be in Lake George in june 26- june 28 and I've selected Howard Johnson Resort Lodge on 2 Canada str. And On July 4,5 on Lake Placid also in Howard Johnson Resort Lodge on Saranac ave. Did anybody have any expirience with those hotels? I've read that Lake Geogre is very touristy, but I hope in june 26,27 is not that crouded yet?
Thanks a lot. Mariya

Both are okay hotels. Nothing fancy. You will be fine at either although I prefer the Lake Placid area more than I do Lake George. You might want to check out the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid. Wonderful accomodations, terrific restaurant and beautiful setting for not a heck of a lot more $$ than the Howard Johnson. It's worth it. The website is mirrorlakeinn.com.

Mariya, the HoJo's in Lake Placid is not in the center of town, but rather closer to the actual Lake. Mirror Lake is the lake in the center of the town.
We have stayed at that hotel, but would suggest the Best Western Golden Arrow, as it is right on Mirror Lake, in the heart of town, at reasonable rates.
We have also stayed at the Holiday Inn, Ramada, and Adirondack Inn, and greatly prfer The Golden Arrow, as do our sons. Unfortunely, we have sometimes decided last-minute to go, & so miss out on the Golden Arrow.

I'm not familiar with the Howard Johnson Resort but may I suggest you also look into the Sagamore. It's a beautiful historic hotel right on Lake George (a bit pricey though). We found so many things to do there with our young son, carriage rides, boat rentals, pool, etc. They also have a children's program in the summer for kids 4 and older. I like Lake George, however we don't spend much time in the town but prefer to enjoy our surroundings at the hotel & on the lake. We did take our son to a small amusement park (Storyland or something like that), he loved it. I believe there is a bigger amusement park close by as well. The kids love it. Have fun!
