You've got to be kidding me. If this whole baggie charade made air travel any safer, I would wholeheartedly endorse it, but it doesn't. Also, if you read my post above, you would notice that the only times I've been stopped and "held up" the people behind me was when the TSA screeners did not know their agency's own rules. My palatte of "illegal" lipgloss has never inconvenienced anyone, as it has not once in about 100 flights in the last year or so been detected. So, I will continue to recommend that if people are having trouble fitting their things in their baggie they should consider small amounts in non-standard containers, as if it doesn't look like a bottle, it won't be found. Simply putting a lip gloss or hand sanitizer (non-metallic container) in your pocket also works. In my experience, the people holding up the line are the infrequent travelers who don't know to take their shoes off, coat off, laptops out, etc.
And seriously, with the TSA screeners at 21 airports recently failing tests to detect BOMB COMPONENTS, I think we have a lot more to worry about than a tube of lip gloss or bottle of contact solution.

There definitely is truth to the statement that if it doesn't look like a liquid (or other banned substance) it will probably get through.
I have a lighter pen - one end writes, the other makes a flame - that I took on a plane. I didn't mean to, but it was in my purse and I forgot to take it out. The screener even looked in my purse, pulled out the lighter pen, examined it and said "oh, just a pen" and I was on my way.
I felt much safer.

My baggie is always crammed and I always carry a spare or two, just in case my bag were to break---altho it has never happened. NO ONE in the TSA at multiple US airports has ever made any comment on the chubbiness of my bag and I have never caused a moment of delay to any other passenger.
A tip--use the brand name, not generic. They are sturdier and more flexible, thus accomodating more.
