I like living where I live, for the most part. But now and then, I wonder what the ideal place to live would look like. If I were creating the perfect American city, I would combine the weather of San Francisco, the culture of New York, and the diversity of Washington, D.C.

Maybe I would name my dream city "San Yorkton."

Anyone else have a dream city?

The weather of San Francisco? What about it do you like the unpredictability? or the biting cold wind that occurs year-round.

Don't get me wrong, San Fran or Chicago are my urban choices, but not for the weather.

I loved the weather in San Francisco. I found it invigorating and very conducive to outdoor exercise and strolling. Plus, it doesn't swing wildly one way or the other, so you don't need substantial wardrobes for summer heat or winter freeze. I thought the fog was kind of romantic, too, particularly tumbling in from the Marin Headlands.

Hmm...The people woud be as good looking as those in Miami, the city would be right on the beach (Ft. Lauderdale's), a mountain range woud be less than an hour's drive (Grand Tetons), it would have New York-caliber restaurants with Des Moine-caliber prices, a Midwestern-like friendly atmosphere, and a southern-like sense of hospitality...

I'd combine the ambience of Youngstown, OH; the culture of Terre Haute, IN; the traffic of Boston, MA; the climate of South Bend, IN; and the scenery of WaKeeney, KS.

Then I'd move as far away as possible.

San Yorkton should have no traffic congestion! And should have sunny days (72 and balmy all the time) rain only at night, and most important: NO SNOW!!! Being close to the beaches and mountains important too. Hmm, close to beaches and mountains, sounds like North Carolina!

And the men strong, the women handsome and the schools above average.
