Inexpensive Chicago Hotel--10/21 for 2 nights
Can anyone help me find a decent downtown hotel in Chicago for 10/21 for 2 nights? I am going with my mother who can't walk too far, so we need to stay along Michigan Ave. I tried Priceline, but have been rejected for a 3 or 4-star for $85 for that time.
Thanks!

I don'think you will get anything better than $85 per night - that's very reasonable for Michigan Ave.
If you want to see other options check www.hotrooms.com or go to www.biddingfortravel.com and get advice on how to re-bid since you still have time to do so on Priceline..
good luck...

I live in Chicago not too far from Michigan Ave. I would be surprised if you could find a decent hotel in that area at that price. Its one of the most expensive areas of Chicago to stay.
Have you been here before? What is your max price?

Tracy - most hotels there are starting at 200 per night and that is the minimum. Its an expensive place! I looked around at a lot of sites and that seems to be the going price. But there is hope!
I did go to lastminute.com for the dates you want and found availability at the HOLIDAY INN CITY CENTER for $159 per night. Its at 300 E. Ohio, very close to Michigan Ave and all the good stuff. And safe.
Make sure you really look at the addresses. There are other Holiday Inns so dont get confused.
Hope this helps. If I find more, I will let you know.

Tracy, you can frequently get hotels just north of the loop for about $100-120 through Priceline, but the deck may be stacked against you for that weekend.
You're at the end of an opthomologist convention that is expecting 27,000 people. Beginning that weekend, there's a technology conference that's expecting about 2,000 at McCormick Place, a lumber wholesaler's convention that's bringing 1,900 people to the Hyatt, and Stylemax starts October 22 and will bring about 5,000 people to Merchandise Mart. Plus, there will be about 1,000 other people attending smaller meetings in town.
Most of the large conventions block rooms until about 30 days before the event. The hotels then release any that aren't booked. You may have better luck finding something about the middle of September.

Do you have any flexibility with dates? We checked 3 different weekends in October and November and found the rates varied significantly due to conventions, etc. You might want to check out Club Quarters (2 locales) which sometimes can be around $125 per night or there is a Red Roof Inn off Michigan that can be reasonable but again....if Chicago is busy, then nothing is reasonable. Good luck!

You would have done this easily if your timing had been longer. Except for the 9th weekend, because that is the Marathon.
Try hotwire.com and put in your designated area- you might get something more reasonable than some of those suggested so far.

Expect to pay big bucks in Chicago, especially in the Michigan Ave. area. You can find reasonable rates in motels further out.
HOWEVER, on lodging.com we recently located a special rate at The Drake Hotel right on Michigan Ave. which we took advantage of. The Drake is an elegant old hotel. Price was $29 plus tax, and of course valet parking. Quite a deal and I have no idea why this bargain was available.

I have spare rooms from a meeting block at the Drake for Oct. 20, 21, & 22 or any combination thereof. Rate is $229/night. You can call the hotel directly to make the reservation and pay them directly. No BS -- you'll be doing me a huge favor just by helping fill my room block. Please e-mail me for the reservation code.

Rates have really taken a jump in Chicago this last year. Things were especially bad (for them) after 9/11 when I paid $69/night at the Drake, $75/night at Sofitel and $89/night at Hotel Monaco.
My last three trips in 2005 to Chicago I've paid $169/night+ every time.
What is biddingfortravel.com showing?
