Is Fla. Still Standing?

CNN in Buenos Aires carried every detail. I've returned, wiser but ... yawn ... tired, and in need of Fla. for recovery. Is Fla. still standing? And how are the winds offshore? Ciao

Not only is FL still standing, most of here are as tired of the election hooplah as everyone else in the country. The media would have you believe everyone is in turmoil and marching in the streets, which is anything but true. Believe it or not, the most anyone has been saying about the election is how sick they are of having round-the-clock media coverage of speculation, arguments, and the whole dragged-out process. And I'm sure all the networks couldn't be happier about it all.

Anyway,to answer your other question, the weather is nice, the winds are fair, and the skies are blue!

In BA last week, the only topic of interest on CNN was "the election." Even the Argentine Tribune gave Fla. front page coverage. The hearing today is just up the street from me, and I am certain it will NOT end the issue. This entire thing may be going into new and dangerous areas. No one in BA could believe that the US, of all places, is doing this.

I think that as a nation we have done a good job of painting a false picture of our democratic government to the world.
My grandfather was in politics, and I could tell you quite a few stories of stolen ballots, lost ballots, changed ballots (well after they were put in the box), votes by dead people, fudged counting, and voter intimidation. This time it happened on such a massive scale that someone had to protest.

Leone, Welcome home--hope it was all it was cracked up to be and that those left behind continued the mending process, which is more than what's been happening here!

Yup, that's pretty much what CNN was like here last week as well. Partisan haranguing. It's all been said ad nauseum. We are hoping for gale force off shore winds that will clear the foreign debris out of the state!! gt;

Bob, I have to repectfully disagree with the commment that "this time it happened on a massive scale". What happened "this time" is a presidential election turns on one state's electoral votes, and that state's election was razor thin close. Add to that a media that is much more bloodthirsty than the media was in the last such close election (Kennedy-Nixon) and there you have it. Voter fraud no better OR WORSE than in your Grandaddy's time.
By the way, add me to the list of Floridians who is pretty much ignoring this issue (this post excepted) and getting on with my life.

Yes, OO, - and hope all is fine with you and your guys, and that 11/23 and environs were wonderful for all, and that all made it home safely. Yes, BA was 100% fab - so much more than anticipated. And the tango - wow. Visited Evita's grave - stylish in stone, forever. Will tell you all about it sometime - cannot imagine how to render such awe and pleasure into words. And will be going back. Adjusting trip list today. Why wait? Hope life is keeping you on its good side and that all your breezes are beam or following. Take care, enjoy and keep the good thoughts flowing to enhance the Fodor-scape. And thx, Max is mending - half-way home, - and he reports all systems "go"(mercifully for all). Ciao-dios, L

Hi, Olive. Hope you're getting in some boat time these days. Sounds better than the chill we are getting in Maryland.

I think I would like to sprint away from my earlier, hasty prediction that Al Gore would prevail because he is a vampire. He is still a vampire, but I seriously underestimated (1) the ability of Republican litigators to stall the contest litigation, and (2) the incompetence and unprecedented laziness of the Palm Beach and Miami Dade canvassing boards.

So do tell. Are Floridians annoyed that these two political bodies were more interested in eating cranberry sauce than in fulfilling their statutory obligations? Or am I the only one who would like to kick their tails up to Hillsborough and back again?

Take care.

Cindy, Isn't that absolutely unbelievable??? They are making history, the eyes of the world upon them, and they stay home eating turkey and watching football, not realizing somehow, the enormity of the task in progress. Sure hope it was worth it. No, you aren't alone; that was yet another incredible act of utter stupidity. (Palm Beach) And Miami-Dade, what...did they just give up or is there more to that than meets the eye? And please...don't anyone try to tell me they were intimidated so abandoned their re-count! This (PB, Miami-Dade) is a group that needs to take lessons from private enterprise...for the critical issues you work 24/7, with as many people as it takes to complete the task and with a smile on your face, of course. Work to be done isn't put on hold because it's turkey day. Jeez Louise! Floriduh, the Mickey Mouse State.

Your prediction may still be right on. He's tenacious for sure, and as he becomes more humble in his limbo, he's also developed some warmth. Humility becomes him. I could have gone either way with these two, and at times post- election, I honestly question my vote.

Pretty chilly here too Cindy--believe me, you are missing nothing!!

Leone, Glad all systems are go! Was pretty sure BA would reach beyond expectations. Odd that Evita's name should arise now. Would love to hear about her headstone--doubt it would disappoint! gt; LuPone for Presidente!!

Weather was very un-Floriduh like, rain and cold, but you know we loved every second of having them with us! Bring your woolies when you come at Xmas...an odd weather pattern seems to be settling in this winter. What level of Dante's Inferno was cold and rainy? See, justice will prevail. gt;

We're doing much better in Florida now since Japan sent us the 50 million cases of Viagra. They heard we were having trouble getting an election.

Florida has replaced California as the land of fruits, nuts and weirdos! All Florida has become is a land of druggies, senile seniors, illiterates, crooks hiding out and rednecks! They ought to cut it off at the Georgia line and let it drift down to Cuba. Castro can have you all!

one thing no one took into account is that miami dade employees and their ilk over there do NOT like to work M-F anyway. You go to the county building and everyone is playing with pencils or taking the phones off the hook. It is VERY appropo of the majority of them to just...not count...because...well..they'd have to... W O R K .

a lifelong miami dade countian here. LOL
