It is safe to run in Central Park so go and enjoy yourself. "e" is probably not a runner since there is not real loop that he's mentioning that runners would normally do. Anyway, if you want to contact the NY Road Runners Club or check out their website they'll tell you that it's find to do the regular park loop which is as John K mentions about 6.2 miles.

Running at dawn in Central Park is perfectly safe. The NY roadrunners club does have an excellent website -- a google search should find it. Two laps around the reservoir is a 5K. I also like to run the bridal path; it's a great way to see many of the bridges.

As pointed out the loop around the park is a bit more than 6 miles - includes some hills to negotiate.
The run around the reservoir is 2700 yards - 1.53 miles, all flat on earth.
If you enter the park at 59th St. there is a loop that goes to 72nd ST. and back to 59th. - that loop is about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 miles, all flat.
It is safe to run at dawn. After 7 am, weekdays, cars are allowed on the park drive (along which you run) until 1O am.

I just wanted to thank everyone for your replies. Our trip to New York was perfect and the journey through Central Park was a wonderful experience! I started at 59th St. and 7th Ave. I took Ted's advice and took the bridle path around the reservoir and back.It was great!I can't wait to go back and do it again. Thank you all!
