Just ate at Herbsaint in New Orleans...the city is coming back!

Just wanted to drop a quick word about my meal this evening at Herbsaint. This was my first time dining there and I was thoroughly impressed. Excellent on every level. I highly recommend it.

I had the lamb osso bucco w/steamed greens and risotto. My husband had oven roasted hens with crawfish risotto and grilled asparagus. We had the vanilla bean creme brulee. Service was outstanding and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant was busy and was near capacity, which is excellent news and shows that the city is recovering.

The website is www.herbsaint.com if anyone's curious.

Hey mah (if I had a nickel for every time I said that growing up!) Glad to hear that N.O. is on it's way to recovery. Are you in the city now? If so, do you have any way of finding out when my favorite hotel, the Lafitte Guest House, may be reopening? I tried to phone them over the weekend for Jazz Fest reservations, but noone answered the phone. Thanks!

I have read that Lafitte Guest House will not be reopening. Maybe it will be sold and new owners will take it?

I have heard the same thing about the Guest House.

There is a list of the hotels that are currently open on nola.com ("open for business").

Do you mean sad b/c you wish you could eat there again? New Orleans should be open for tourists on a large scale by the spring. You can eat then!

No, sad because I enjoyed staying at the Lafitte Guest House and was looking forward to doing so again. It was pretty awesome having an entire 3rd floor balcony to ourselves, drinking wine and watching both the sunset and the evening revelry from that vantage point. I do hope it reopens, whether under new or old management. Whether or not, best wishes to all those affected by Katrina.
