Kaanapali Beach Hotel or Sheraton in Maui
Going back to Maui this year and would like to try somewhere different to stay on Kaanapali. I'm trying to decide between the Sheraton or the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Both sound pretty good and are in my price range (although KBH is less expensive). What are your thoughts?

Carol,
DO NOT STAY AT THE KAANAPALI BEACH HOTEL!!! My husband and I checked in there on the second leg of our HONEYMOON and checked out less than 8 hours later. There was food on the floor, the carpets and walls were stained, the bathroom was dirty and the construction in and outside of the building was an eye-sore. We got reimbursed and moved to the Marriot and had a great experience.
We snorkeled in front of the Sheraton and it looked fine from the outside.
Need I say more?

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton Maui in October (part of a business trip) and thought it was wonderful. The staff upgraded us to a deluxe suite, which had an incredible view. We thought for a honeymoon or special occasion, the price of the suite would be well worth it! We saw some of the regular rooms, and although they weren't as lavish as the suites, they looked like typical, clean hotel rooms. But definitely go for the ocean view. The main restaurant (I can't remember the name) was excellent. The beach was nice, as well as the pool. Snorkeling around the Black Rock was fun, too. The service was A+. The only bad part was that we couldn't stay longer.

Hi - I have stayed at the Sheraton in Maui 2x in the past year. It is wonderful. I have also been upgraded on both stays to a deluxe ocean view room (building 6 - right on the water, you can see Molokai and Lanai from the bedroom). The deluxe rooms are bigger than the regular rooms - but both are really nice. The beach is wonderful, the staff friendly, helpful, and professional. My husband and I have become Sheraton junkies - its the only place we want to stay now, no matter where we go.
Enjoy your trip!
(PS: Sheraton is part of the Starwood chain - if you join their 'frequent flyer' program they often have special member rates for Hawaii - 30-40% off the rack rates for the rooms.)
