Kauai and Princeville help!

We are going on our honeymoon and our last island is Kauai (maui and kona are the first two on a 2 week vacation). We booked the Hyatt but were just told their spa will be under construction while we're there and they will try to keep noise to a minimum.

Not so thrilled with construction noise on our honeymoon. Can anyone tell me about Princeville? We'll be there in the beginning of June and are just concerned about the amount of rain. I was told it rains for 5 min and then clears up, can anyone give me some more info?

THanks so much!!

Danielle

Danielle,

We were at the Hyatt a few years ago when they were also doing construction work. The Spa is at the back of the hotel and we never heard a thing. They stop work at 5 PM, and when you are on the beach or pool side, all you hear is the ocean during the day. My husband did hear some noise in the morning when he was working out in the gym, as they were redoing the spa, but they moved the Spa Treatment rooms to the top floor of the hotel for beautiful views.
They told us last summer that they would be enlarging the spa again this year.

I don't think the work would impact your honeymoon evenings at all.

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt in Kauai in August 2004 and it was amazing. Please note that the spa was on the other side of the property from where we stayed. If you request a room across from the main buliding and pool area then you probably won't hear a peep. We had a partial ocean view room overlooking the magnificent pool area and it took us a good 10 minutes to walk across the property to the spa area. The entire property is fantastic.

Thanks so much, we'll definitely stick to the Hyatt then and not risk the chance of rain at the Princeville!!

Thanks for your input!

FYI - You probably won't have any more rain in June in Priceville than on the southside.

Also, be aware that the Hyatt will be full of children in June. However, this may not make any difference to you.

If you do a search, there are countless posts comparing the Princeville and the Hyatt. Everybody has their favorite.

Have a wonderful honeymoon.

As amazing as the Hyatt may be, I would stay in Princeville no matter what. That whole end of the island is just incredible, ESPECIALLY for a couple on their honeymoon. Go early to Hideaways Beach and you'll have it all to yourself. My wife and I had the whole beach to ourselves for about two hours.

Sorry to add to your confusion, but Princeville is my vote, all the way. Rain in Princeville, who cares? Its quick (hello, its Hawaii) and adds to the beauty and rainbows. Hyatt is a good destination but Princeville has many other offerings besides a resort, you can't beat the area. Just my preference. Went to the Hyatt once and Princeville Resort many times and will return many, many more.

Princeville is infinitely prettier than Poipu. Kauai is small. If it is raining up north, drive south or wait a spell.

The weather on the north shore will be lovely in June, so don't let the threat of some rain, which means rainbows on the horizon and waterfalls on the pali, keep you from staying on the north shore.

I'd definitely recommend staying on the North Shore in June. We stayed in Puu Poa (right next door to the Princeville) in May and the weather was beautiful. There were short showers, but that's what makes the North Shore so breathtaking. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else for my Honeymoon. I just don't think the south side of the island has as much to offer in terms of scenery. Whatever you decide congrats and enjoy!

I am going to dissent and say I'm a south shore fan. I like the north shore too, but I disagree that Poipu has little to offer in the way of scenery.

Also, if you want a more "Hawaiian" experience--the Princeville is not it. It is a lovely resort but one of the least Hawaiian-feeling I've ever been in (in Hawaii!).

But there is no hotel in Hawai`i (IMHO) which can match the natural views from the Princeville Hotel. Even the neighboring Hanalei Bay Resort doesn't have the awesome Princeville views of Hanalei Bay, the waterfall-filled pali (mountains) AND the ocean.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh....!
