Las Cruses or El Paso?

Las Cruses or El Paso?
Have a business trip which will have me staying overnight on a Sunday in this area. Can stay in either city. Any advice on which city would be more interesting for an overnight and/or have a more interesting place for dinner? Any hotel recommendations?

El Paso is slightly larger city than Las Cruces. But I prefer LC.
My son went to NMSU in Las Cruces. They have all of the typical chain motels. I used to stay at Comfort Suites which is near campus.

I second La Posta de Mesilla. It is especially atmospheric at night with all the lights on.
Mesilla is the old adobe town at the edge of modern Las Cruces and the most interesting place to be. We used Las Cruces also as a base for a drive to White Sands and Alamogordo.
We stayed at SpringHill Suites which is a slightly above-average motel. It is a mile or so away from Mesilla, so we took the car to drive to La Posta. Maybe you better take a taxi, because the Margaritas are good.

Thanks very much. I decided on Las Cruces and have ended up at the Marriott because the smaller more interesting looking hotel Meson de Mesilla will be closed for renovation. Appreciate the restaurant tip. Looks perfect.
