Las Vegas - airport to mid-strip

We are taking our newly-minted 21-year-old to Las Vegas for the weekend. Just Saturday and Sunday. Staying at the Venetian. What's the best way to get to and the hotel? -- we arrive about 10:30 am. Saturday and depart around 6 p.m. Sunday.

I would take a taxi. Those shuttles are only $6pp, but would probably take you over an hour to get to the Venetian. Here's a recent thread with lots of good info:

Take a taxi and tell them to use Paradise Road instead of the freeway. They'll tell you the freeway is faster but don't fall for it.

Thanks all. Are "paradise road, no freeway" and "avoid the tunnel" the same thing?

For 2 days only, with a young person, I vote for taxis!

Make sure you give yourself enough time to go through security on the way back.

I second that last response. Security lines at the Vegas airport are the worst. Last time took me about an hour and half on a Sunday to get through the line. Leave PLENTY of time. Sunday afternoons at the airport are nuts.

Topping for an answer to this followup question:

Are "Paradise Road, no freeway" and "avoid the tunnel" the same thing?

just cutting in on this thread..

I'll be staying at the Luxor. Being at the beginning of the strip, does it make the shuttle a more viable option?

I would say one person a shuttle, two or more a taxi. South strip would be cheaper than mid strip.

It's the same price for 2 people to take a taxi as it is for a shuttle- I missed a flight because of a late shuttle once, and haven't been on a shuttle since!

Regarding taxi drivers,
you will have to be assertive
in your directions because
they will try to talk you
out of going Paradise Road.

This happens every time
we're there.

Point out you've been
several times and have learned,
(as they have lol) that the
no tunnel way is quicker.

Have fun.

When we flew in to Vegas one mid afternoon, I could see that there was a surprisingly "devoid of traffic" strip. So when the taxi driver insisted that he had just come from there and that the strip was "clogged with traffic" and wanted to take the other route, I insisted. Finally I simply said, "No we're in Vegas and I WANT TO SEE the hotels along the strip. He grumbled all the way, and I think was rather embarrassed when there was indeed NO traffic. He kept saying, "I can't believe how quickly the traffic jam disappeared". LIAR!

So rather than argue about which is quicker -- I suggest you say you simply want to see the strip.
