Last minute trip Vegas-Monument Valley-GC?

I somehow managed to get a cancellation at the Grand Canyon for two nights next week. I've never seen Monument Valley, and would like to add it. I have two free days and nights before GC. Could I go from Los Angeles to Las Vegas (more or less) to Monument Valley and end up at GC in that amount of time?

What would be the best routing? Can I drive thru Zion on the way there? Or is this NOT ALLOWEd any more?

Thanks so much.

You can drive thought Zion on Hwy 9. The dead end road into the canyon is shuttle bus only & is closed to cars in the summer.

Not sure exactly how much time you have.

Los Angeles - Las Vegas - Zion - Monument Valley - S. Rim Grand Canyon - Los Angeles is 1350 miles.

If you only have two days before the Grand Canyon then your itinerary will look like this.

Day 1: Drive Los Angeles to Zion is 430 miles approx. 6 1/2 hours of driving.

Day 2: Spend a few hours in Zion before driving 240 miles approx 5 1/2 hours to Monument Valley, tour Monument Valley

Day 3 Drive to Grand Canyon, S. Rim 180 miles about 4 hour drive, but plan on longer because there are many great scenic overlooks before you reach Grand Canyon Village.

Day 4 Grand Canyon

Day 5 Drive back to Los Angeles 490 miles and about 7 1/2 hours...unless it's a Sunday and then plan on it taking longer. Traffic backs up in Barstow going back to LA on Sundays!

Thanks for replying! I decided to go for it.

Now need to decide if staying at Gouldings is worth it. The consensus is yes?

I've just returned and had a great trip. The best thing about Gouldings was being able to get up at 5:30 am (gulp) Arizona time, drive over to MV, and get in the park before virutally any one else. I had nearly 2 hours where I saw only two other cars, it was wonderful!

At Gouldings I had to stay in "Goulding's House" which is a rather large mobile home, but it did have the view from the living room and a real kitchen. I think "next time" I may approach from the east/north, do a sunset tour, and then stay at the Anasazi Inn.

Brief trip report to come! PS, Thanks for your replies.
