March Weather-Deep South

Posted this message two days ago and it seems to have disappeared (can't find it with a search either). Anyway, apologize if this is a repeat.
Can anyone tell us what the weather in March is like in the South? We will be travelling through Arizona, New Mexico, (southerly route)Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Northern Florida, up through Georgia, North and South Carolina and returning through Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, etc. We can leave anytime, but March is rainey, blustery here and we thought the Southern States might be nice at this time. Thanks for any input.

I live on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay between Mobile and P'cola. March weather can be very unpredictable in the deep South. Speaking for the Gulf Coast, we're generally creeping into Spring conditions by then, highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, lows in the upper 50s to 60s, with some rain and warm season humidity returning, however, we've had a couple of late freezes in this timeframe, in the last few years. In '93 we had 2" of snow!! So,, it's hard to predict, but if you had to hang your hat on something, I would say mild to cool, with some rain. Ya'll have a good trip.

S.C. - March is generally spring, but you never know. You could get sunny 70's or sleet and not over 40. The mountains of western N.C. will be 10 degrees or so colder than the rest of SC and NC. Charleston a bit warmer.

Sorry so indecisive, but so is March weather.

Dang Joe I don't wanna sound rude but pretty silly question don't you think. I mean temperatures in March in states you mentioned can range anywhere from minus 16 to 108. Tornados have occured, floods, blinding snowstorms, intense lightning, even hurricanes, so I guess the answer to your question is it could be anything mother nature can deliver.

Ok Joe maybe not hurricanes but all the others can. I am from Atlanta, in March I've seen snowstorms, ice storms, heat and humidity, tornados, thunderstorms, bitter cold, etc.

Why: Well, you just have to stretch your imagination a little like Danna and Glen did. Obviously, I am asking what is typical and if you get it wrong, I won't sue, I promise. We have some peculiaralities as well, Earthquakes and even an occaisional funnel cloud (it's what we call small tornados). But, we don't predict them and if asked, I can give a pretty fair approximation of what our weather will typically be like in March as long as you don't hold me to it. If enough people give me an idea of what to expect in their respective areas, I can look at it and make some decisions about whether I want to try March or not. Can you handle that Why?

Joe, Are you asking people to respond with the March weather in their respective parts of the south? Your message (and its predecessor) appears to be asking one person to know the answer to all the regions you'll be travelling through. And you don't mention where you're coming from which would give a responder a basis for comparison.

I've done March in No Carolina, Tennessee, OK and New Mex. Temps in March are normally upper 60s/low 70s in the day and 50s/40s at night with common but unpredictable bouts of heat waves, heavy rain, snow, sleet, and high winds.

Joe: Obviously, I am asking people to respond with what they know (within the context of unpredictability, of course). If you know the information for all areas, then, by all means, respond accordingly. If you know the information for a specific area, then provide it if you are so inclined (as Danna and Glen did and I thank them, and as you did in your last paragraph).
I thought I laid out the course of the trip pretty thoroughly. But, what the heck, everybody's logic or lack thereof is different.

Joe,

I now understand why Fodors deleted your prior question........because it's dumb!

Ask something real. Hell, the weather forecasters have no clue for tomorrow. Why would you think a Fodorite would be so insightful?

Here is my forecast (I'm very seldom wrong). It may rain, snow, sleet, be hot, be cold, be just right, windy, etc. No hurricanes since the season is over in November. Can't rule out a tornado. Earthquakes are doubtful.

I really hope this helps.

Mr. Weather
