Maui Prince

I am staying at Maui Prince in January - primo ocean view room. I have a few questions (and Gen, if you are reading, I DID do a search and didn't find what I am looking for...OK?)

Rooms: How well equipped are the rooms? They say they have VCRs, Fridges, and coffee makers...do the bathrooms have separate showers? What kind of amenities do they provide?

Fitness Center: Is it nice? What is the Massage Center like (or should I go to one of the Wailea hotels for a massage?)

Beach: Are there lounge chairs/towels available (free or for fee?)...also what about umbrellas or cabanas at the beach and at the pool?

Does the hotel activities desk have any good tours/ whale watches, etc.?

Any member of the staff worth seeking out?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has been there recently and takes some time to answer...I appreciate it!

Andi

We stayed at the Maui Prince two years ago. We had reserved a partial ocean view room - upon checking in, in order to see the ocean we had to lean way over the balcony and crane our necks just to get a glimpse. Moved to another partial ocean view and didn't hae to stretch and crane as much. Was told all Ocean View rooms were taken. Primo ocean view are probably great.

Had a massage and facial - thought both were very good. Our room had a fridge, safe, VCR, and coffee maker. The bathroom was a little small, shower in the tub, not separate.

Nice pool area. We took the snorkle trip that leaves right from the beach in front of the hotel. It was great. My sister was very sea sick and they took wonderful care of her.

One of the books says to get 2nd floor or higher because an earth berm limits the view for ground floor dwellers. Can't speak to the hotel itself but the beach in front is very nice indeed.
Have a great trip.

The hotel is separated from the beach by a pretty good sized berm. The beach is very nice, and very secluded.
But as far as unobstructed views of the beach and ocean simultaneously, that's a tricky one. I'm recalling that very few rooms would have views of both. Do keep in mind that this hotel was built in the mid 1980's, so standards at that time were different than today as far as bathroom size and amenities, etc. Still, a very well run place and fair value for what you're paying.

Andrea, I'm not sure how much you are paying per night, but I just looked on Hotwire.com and they have rooms that look like the Maui Prince for $138.per night. You might want to check it out. I saw the Maui Prince last Jan. from the outside but did not go inside to see any of the rooms. From the reviews that I have viewed, the rooms may be somewhat dated, but the restaurants are good, and the beaches are quiet and beautiful. I think they also have a shuttle to take you to the Wailea resorts where the action is. If you are looking for solitude, peace & quiet, this may be the place to go! Look at the other comments on Hotwire and try tripadvisor.com, as well as Maui revealed. We're also going in Jan. and staying at the Renassance. I like that setting a little better with the 4 resorts next to each other and the sidewalk that you can go for long walks, and check out what's happening! Have a great trip!!

Very nice hotel/location (even though isolated). Rooms not all that spectacular. Beach is my favorite along that strip (even more so than the Four Seasons where I stayed!).

Any suggestions on which wing has the best sunset views? We booked prime ocean view, but not sure which side to request. Does anyone have a suggestion?
